Really when you think ‘Space Man’ was hardly groundbreaking and different and very safe and sat very much in what the BBC were already sending. It wasn’t an embarrassment but the studio version didn’t sound like a winning song either. It was Sam’s performance that brought the song to life paired with his great attitude throughout the whole process that got him the result. I have my doubts whether the BBC wanted to win last year or really just wanted a low top 10 result and say they have somewhat turned it around from disaster the year before.

I disagree, I thought 'SPACE MAN' was a far, far better song than everything else we've sent recently even in studio form. Though yes, helped out even more by a great performance.

I don't want to completely write off Mae Muller before hearing the song but I have absolutely rock bottom expectations based on the lyrics from that snippet and the other songs I've heard by her ('Better Days' is decent tbf, but from her 2 songs that have been in BJSC, 'Therapist' was mid and 'I Just Came To Dance' was pretty bad, at least relieved that it isn't that song being sent lol).

I think it's far more likely they just have bad taste than a deliberate attempt to pick something that would sabotage us doing well so there's no chance of having to host again next year lmao.

After all as noted it's not the first time we've sent shite.

They could have had Rita, Calvin and Ellir with a maaassive trance song callrd MIRACLES!!!!, or Birdy! They deliberately wsnt us to not win.

The thing is they’ve allowed Euro fans and the GP to get really carried away with who could be representing us and had artists playing along - whilst it creates hype to allow something to run wild then you really have to back it up with the goods when the announcement is made and from the 14 seconds I’ve heard of the Mae track it sounds like an Anne Marie b-side, it could however be iconic once we get the full version and see a performance.

The other thing with allowing the rumour mill to go into overdrive is that I’ve seen some horrible stuff written about Mae on social media followed by we demand Rina which is really unfair on Mae.

So much discourse over a song we’ve heard 14 seconds of

They are doing an AMA on reddit tomorrow for Mae!!! Ir is going to be HORRRENDOUS. This is disappointment on a scale unprecedented even for BBTory and Eurovision. We are hosring after a massive entry and thry give us this bland crap?! After making ud wslait AGES and hyping up the other, far better, candidates.

Anyway, an account was made a day ago:

:( It's done. They really went for that claptrap.

I'm really not a fan of the snippet. The snippet really sounds as basic as an Anne-Marie song during pre-drinks.

However, if it is indeed Mae, I feel really bad for her. Especially seeing as Rina (and seemingly everyone else) really played into the rumours and kind of set her up, which is kinda cruel tbh. Ik Rina probably has no idea who the actual entrant would be or whatever, but it's still a bit unfair to Mae/whoever is the actual entrant. I'm all for teasing, but there should be a point where it's like... "That was fun, but unfortunately it's not me this year." like a couple of weeks into it. Idk.

I'm FUMING!

We could have had Ellie and Calvin, or Rina. Imagine the MOMENT! Even Birdy would have been grrat. But THIS?!

calm down jeez

I think it sounds perfectly fine and I hope that Reddit AMA isn't a disaster because that feels like asking for it

It’s very hard not to be disappointed after being teased with Rina, but of course that was too good to be true
This feels like a Josh Dubovie moment after getting a good result with Jade the year before. The BBC never follow up after a good result.

I like the full song, seems I’ll be in a minority. It’s catchy and sounds like a chart hit.

Quite impressive to have a Karen Poole co-write for Eurovision too.

I do get why people are annoyed though, at Eurovision it doesn’t feel competitive particularly, but let’s see I guess. It’s hardly down there with Embers or Bigger Than Us, she’s a great performer and will put on a great popstar performance of a contemporary pop song, the juries are not likely to reward that with nul points.

The song's ok... But it doesn't really go anywhere...

Maybe they'll be able to stage it right, but I'm struggling to see it. 😔

Im reserving judgement until I hear the actual track, coz it could be like Finland/Austria and be awful on paper but slap f***ing hard in reality. I doubt it, it is the BBC after all. It would be very on brand for them to absolutely blow up every single bit of groundwork that was put in last year. But imma hold onto a final shred of hope
It does sound better in full, it is absolutely better than the majority of songs we’ve sent this century and I’m glad we’re sending a big upbeat pop song (with an actual performer…!). I just can’t get around it sounding like other recent pop entries that have tried and failed over the past few years. If Brooke couldn’t qualify, I don’t have high hopes for this!
It would do well in the UK top 40 but thats it , its just as bland as the current charts

the song is out now

Great video (I'll forgive that it's a Ford being trashed, not a Benz... Lol)

OK... Second listen in and it is VERY lodged in my brain. That could be a good sign?

It’s fine, but as others have said fine mostly results in 26th with a bullet because it’s comes 11th-15th in most people’s rankings. Unless the performance is amazing, it’s definitely a step backwards from last year. True, it’s better than James Newman and the 2015-2019 (bar Lucie) period, but that’s the faintest of praise.
