So if Daniel O'Donnell made the charts (which he did several times) then Radio 1 played him - even if they did make snide comments afterwards. I don't remember them making snide comments about the songs the charts at all during the 90s. It was much more serious - that all changed in the mid 00s when the charts were dumbed down, DJs could give opinions about records and not announcing records properly or pretending to care about the charts became a thing! Although of course Jameela Jamil's opinions were pure ART.
