Do we think if/once WHAM! get that elusive "Christmas Number 1" tag, it'll start to not be as big a hitter at Christmas anymore? Ignoring next year (and what they do for the 40th anniversary etc..) do we think it'll go a similar way to where The Pogues are now (a Christmas staple but not *quite* to the levels it has been before)? Coz to me it does feel like a lot of WHAM!'s campaigns have been for it to get Christmas Number 1... in a way that once it manages it, I can't help but feel people may move on to something else?

(Obvz not saying it will happen - just curious to read what others think)

I think any people specifically streaming it only because it's never been a Christmas #1 would be a pretty tiny drop in the ocean so I don't think so. But there's every chance it will eventually fall down the pecking order like The Pogues (and like Mariah to some degree). That'll probably be down to Spotify though.

Don't think and don't think Wham is there cos of campaigns, it's there cos it's track #1 on every playlist

On the other hand, Pogues are missing or are low in the most Us-centric playlists that's why they've been doing worst not cos people are tired of it

that's what I think at least

They're only #4 on the main Christmas Hits playlist though. (And they're even a place lower than that on the more UK catered Christmas Crackers).
I think the fact that The Pogues isn't anywhere close despite being so low in the odds initially (and being the likely choice if you'd ask someone on the streets about what they think is going to be number 1) both shows how little the general public as a whole know about modern charts and the general apathy towards actually making it happen. I thought the latter may make a difference, but it seems like the spark Ladbaby put back into the prospect hasn't been recaptured this year (and Creator Universe sure as hell weren't the ones to do that lol x).
Team Wham for the #01 this week. I find Sam Ryder's song awful.
Shame Noah's label didn't decide to push it this week, with a remix and physicals he could've been in with a real shot. Just hoping he holds up well into January and can take it the week after next.

Crazy to think in the past 20 years, the only Xmas #1s we've had which weren't either X Factor winners or (mostly terrible) charity campaigns are Killing in the Name, Rockabye and Perfect. Would be nice to see a genuinely popular current hit get it again.

Killing in the name was hardly a genuine popular current hit, it was a campaign against X Factor.

Ladbaby hogging it for so long (with less and less hype each time) probably killed a bit of the public interest more than The X Factor ever did imo

I wouldn't say they had 'less and less hype each time', 'Food Aid' was the only one that was a significant decline.

I think it’s good they’ve gone for January 5th with the two physicals - I’m sure he’ll snatch it then as I can’t see the Dua 7” vinyl being a big enough pull to overtake.

my estimates this week

NO OTHER SALES INFO

Are the Pogues #6 or #7? Presumably there’s no sales info for them?

I reckon the Stones have a decent shot of holding onto albums #1 at this rate

#6 and nope

How is Kylie's Tension doing please?

#35

So not only is Mariah not gaining on Wham! (because of course not), she also isn't even gaining on Sam...

Cher has cracked the Top 20! :w00t:

I just hope she can hold on. #21 would be so cruel. :(
