January 17, 20242 yr was thinking that if Noah's label really want the #1 they can always move the release of the single and ship them Thu instead of the (planned) Friday :o
January 17, 20242 yr It's true, so? Still, 12 versions to buy, first week. Another CD and Vinyl, and 6 versions on streaming (and still number 1 on the biggest playlists since Friday - and I'm sure tomorrow the other 6 will be also) So great for her, but if with all of that she couldn't make it... ...then she's put up a pretty good fight to come within touching distance of a gigantic hit, likely opening with a higher sales figure than her last lead (which spent 6 weeks at #1).
January 17, 20242 yr Yes they're definitely going to put all of the other versions of the song at #1 on Hot Hits as well. Sure.

If she couldn't make it with all that it would be disappointing. But I also think this push is actually more to do with the US too where she's within 1-2 points of #1. With the push now she should debut at #1 in the US fairly easily and extend her record for most #1 debuts there with 6 (8 #1s overall).

I know it's for the US more, but it's working in the UK also, anyway I'm not a fan of that song, at all and I hope soon with single 2 coming next month I'll like it more.
January 17, 20242 yr oh my Westlife would probably had like just 2 or 3 #1s if they didn't manipulate the charts like they did, their sales are #1 were miserable most of the time :D 100% THIS!!
January 17, 20242 yr I said put all the other versions on streaming too, not number 1. learn to read. Sure. Ok well that at least makes more sense but the way you worded that post definitely looked as if you were saying the other versions are also going to get major playlist support! The extra versions on Spotify aren't going to make much difference to her streaming numbers though really, I guess it's possible that the speed-shifted versions might get decent numbers in future weeks if either of them go viral but if that happens then it'll probably just be cannibalising streams of the regular version anyway. Aside from that, the figure of '12 versions' sounds like a lot but if you actually look at how you get to that number it's mostly pretty niche stuff - for one it's double counting most of the versions for both clean and explicit (I sincerely doubt there are many people even among the most dedicated stans who are actively streaming both clean and explicit versions), and then other than that it's mostly combinations of extended and/or instrumental/a cappella versions which don't ever get many streams in themselves. I concede that it's valid to point out that the 12 available versions will be inflating its download sales from multibuying stans but even that is still only going to be maybe a few thousand extra sales tops. If you want to discount that and the few thousand extra sales from the physicals as well then you're still left with a song that is, at minimum, an immediate top 3 hit, performing on par with her last lead single if not slightly ahead and only being beaten by 1 or 2 songs that are pulling numbers higher than most of last year's #1s. I could understand this kind of post if she was selling Lewis Capaldi level CD numbers and still not being #1 but as it is it's really going out of its way to do everything possible to discredit her having a big hit that just happens to have run into an even bigger hit.
January 17, 20242 yr We’ve seen various attempts to boost sales or get a #1 before multiple versions, remixes, discounts etc but I’ve never seen anything like this. 10+ versions most of them useless garbage, sped up? Slowed down? You can literally speed up or slow down the original with settings you don’t need to buy it 😂 This damages the integrity of charts. It’s not even a fan led initiative. She’s released these nonsense purposely to manipulate the charts because she knows she wasn’t going to get #1 it’s very entitled. We’ve seen before billboard clamp down on multiple downloads per person due to BTS recently and before that on bundles and this is really going to be another thing that surely can’t happen in the future. When you’ve had multiple number 1’s to be this desperate to get another when it’s clearly not on merit is a bad look in itself but not unexpected from her. I get narcissistic vibes
January 17, 20242 yr Whatever you think of the tactic you've not been paying very much attention if you think this is the first time an artist has ever released a bunch of extra versions to make an extra push to #1 when they're close behind. Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, BTS and their solo members all come to mind immediately. And sped up/slowed down versions have been common extra versions for a while as well. I don't really care for that concept but if they didn't put them out they'd just bleed streams to bootleg uploads if those versions go viral which they often do over the original versions so I can see why they do it. (and ok they don't 'need' to be bought but neither does any version lol) (also, as per usual, people on a chart forum thinking it's a negative trait for an artist to want to have #1s, that could be the free space on the bingo card x)

I get narcissistic vibes I don't think any of the chart companies should, will, or even can (the labels would probably lobby them not to do it) disallow multiple versions. I think it would be unfair, a lot of songs legitimately have mutiple popular versions, I can think of some like Someone Like You, Go, Bloodstream, Summetime Sadness, Gold Dust, In For the Kill. And as for Billboard, I guess they might be the most likely to do it, but in the 00's some of the ONLY big dance hits they had in the whole decade, Cascada - Everytime We Touch, DHT - Listen To Your Heart, DJ Sammy - Heaven, all managed to do well because they also had piano ballad versions for the radio stations which didn't want to play dance music. I don't think it would've been fair to not count them personally.

January 18, 20242 yr I always like the idea that it’s the artist themselves releasing all these versions, as if Ariana is spending her evenings sat at her laptop uploading the next alternative remix. She’s probably too busy to even know this is happening, so the idea she’s a narcissist through all of this is rather humorous.
January 18, 20242 yr Also I hate to break it to people but 99.9% of musicians and famous probably are probably narcissists due to the very nature of their career.
January 18, 20242 yr I’m not the biggest Ariana fan but I don’t see anything wrong with utilising a big fanbase. Pure sales still matter more than a lot of people want to believe
January 18, 20242 yr Here for Sophie getting a 4th run at #2 next week after being knocked down this week! :)
January 18, 20242 yr My stick season cd shipped a few mins ago so I’m expecting that to give Noah his #1 tomorrow
