BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2024 week 9 and auto-qualifying for the March monthly round is SZA - Saturn.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2024 week 10 and auto-qualifying for the March monthly round is Charli xcx - Von dutch.

SZA claims her first poll win (though she did make the 2023 final with her feature on 'Rich Baby Daddy', it wasn't a winner in its original week) in week 9 with the apparent lead single to forthcoming 3rd album 'Lana', although she's taking longer to give any further information on that album than I have to get this thread up. 'Saturn' got the support of 37% of voters and was followed by 3 other songs in double figure votes - The Blessed Madonna finished 3 votes behind in 2nd place, Selena Gomez's blink and you'll miss it minor hit came 3rd a further 2 votes behind and Rudimental, Skepsis and friends were one further vote behind in 4th. 3 of the rap hits of the week fell short of the 5 vote mark, with the newly re-rebranded mgk taking the wooden spoon with only one vote for his return to rap (I thought it was ok x) and the much maligned Central Cee plus drill newcomer Pozer doing just a little better on 3 votes. Shout out to Yeat getting a surprisingly high 9 votes, I've not been a fan of him before but 'Breathe' is actually quite a banger. There were also 3 votes for 'none of the above'.

And from week 10 it's a 2nd poll win for Charli xcx (fka Charli XCX) with the lead single to her 6th studio album 'BRAT', 'Von dutch' winning with a comfortable 5 vote lead over second place and with the support of 56% of voters. Most of this batch managed to reach double figures, with the ill fated UK Eurovision entry from Olly Alexander in 2nd, twenty one pilots' long awaited return to the top 40 three votes back in 3rd, the Fred again.. led debut hit for Overmono (with added Lil Yachty) one more vote back in 4th, RAYE's BRITs boosted album cut two votes back in 5th and Pharrell Williams' archival collab with Miley Cyrus three votes back in 6th. The wooden spoon for the week is shared between the only two songs which fell short of 5 votes, and both of them join mgk in managing just the 1 vote - the link up between Skrapz, Nines and D-Block Europe which certainly sounds like a link up between Skrapz, Nines and D-Block Europe, and the very mid folk pop offering from Myles Smith which has since built up a fairly lengthy top 100 run for itself but been much overshadowed by his following hit, we'll see if that attracts more fans when we get to it.

This week's poll covers the 3rd and 4th weeks of March, wonder how many of these songs people even remember existing? The week 11 poll has 2 songs with multiple versions that I've considered to be relevant enough to include, the 4batz track had some minor traction for the original solo version before being propelled into the chart courtesy of the more popular remix featuring Drake, while the Jax Jones track I think was still mainly popular for the original version but didn't enter the chart until after the release of the remix with Cascada.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

Next poll will probably be another 2 week one covering the last week of March and the first of April, aiming to go up some time on Sunday night / early Monday morning x (and I will finally get the February monthly round up soon pinkie swear)

Just gonna get my own votes out of the way straight away as we catch up with these polls - this set of songs is not remotely worth the wait for this thread :kink: just voted for the two Ariana songs for week 11 ('bye' was initially one of my least favourite songs on the album but it has grown on me, I need 'supernatural' to become a hit eventually tho pls x) and Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes in week 12 which is a refreshingly different chart hit, nothing absolutely mindblowing but it's got some pretty cool sounds in it and I think it's an improvement on the original version of the song.

Among all the other songs, the only one that rises above mid for me is Cardi B's which is fairly catchy but feels a bit too formulaic to want to go back to, could possibly grow on me though. The ZAYN track is absolutely awful as are Meghan's parts of 'Been Like This' (T-Pain does some heavy lifting to make the song more salvageable than 'Mother' but still egh overall). And that Drake remix really drags down the 4batz song, not that I loved it in the first place, it's just a mediocre Brent Faiyaz ripoff with some pretty eye roll worthy lyrics but I'll take that over the tedious droning Drake's section adds.

Only Ariana WCBF and Mark Knopfler.

And we're back :yahoo:

It's gonna be fun writing largely retrospective briefs for a lot of these songs rather than first-time hearing ones although there will still be handful where that still applies

Week 12

Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love) (#3) - very easy on the ears but with a punchy production, certainly a highlight of her recent discog

Ariana Grande - bye (#13) - pretty middle of the road, lacking much excitement

4batz - act ii: date @ 8 (remix) (feat. Drake) / original (#18) - i have zero recollection of this song despite it being a top 40 hit, doesn't sound like i missed much. even drake can't save it

Clavish - Uh Uh (feat. Fredo) (#70) - ten a penny rap song, next

Gracie Abrams - I miss you, I'm sorry (#81) - what an absolute nothing of a song, dreadful

Jax Jones and Zoe Wees - Never Be Lonely (original / Cascada Remix) (#86) - basic af but a fun song with a more subtle sample than his usual output. cascada version >>> because natalie's vocals are always killer

Galantis, David Guetta and 5 Seconds Of Summer - Lighter (#96) - this is really not good and the vocals are shockingly paper thin, hardly a surprise it never became a hit despite the names involved

Voted Ariana and Jax et al.

Week 13

V - FRI(END)S (#13) - very much inferior to slow dancing on almost every level and that one isn't especially great either

Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes - Going Home (#18) - it was nice to see something so unusual in the charts but the full version is a proper chore to sit through

Meghan Trainor and T-Pain - Been Like This (#60) - it's certainly a meghan song but that's no bad thing this time, and bringing out t-pain from the wilderness deserves extra points

Cardi B - Enough (Miami) (#85) - actually quite like this one, shame it wasn't a top 40 like a lot of her inferior tracks

ZAYN - What I Am (#89) - wtf is this? it doesn't even sound like him what's with the horrific sounding american country-style twang?

Mark Ambor - Belong Together (#94) - i'm sure at the time there would have been zero chance i would have given this a vote but over time it has grown on me, basic as hell but a very catchy vocal melody

Voted Meghan, Cardi and Mark.

Only We Can’t Be Friends for the first.

Mark K, Meghan and Cardi for the second.

Week 11:

Ariana Grande 2x

Week 12:

None

Week 11

1. Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love)

2. Ariana Grande - bye

3. 4batz - act ii: date @ 8 (remix) (feat. Drake)

4. Gracie Abrams - I miss you, I'm sorry

5. Clavish - Uh Uh (feat. Fredo)

6. Jax Jones and Zoe Wees - Never Be Lonely

7. Galantis, David Guetta and 5 Seconds Of Summer - Lighter

It's been a while since I've heard a few of these but I ranked them at the time. I'll try to remember my reasoning

Of course I'm voting for the 2 Ariana songs for this week!

I'm not massive on the high-pitch vocals on 'act ii' but it's fairly smooth.

I was hoping to like the Gracie Abrams track but it's quite dull.

'Uh Uh' is Fredo's worst verse in a while.

'Never Be Lonely' has a weak drop but 'Lighter' has even worse vocals.

Week 12

1. V - FRI(END)S

2. Cardi B - Enough (Miami)

3. Mark Ambor - Belong Together

4. ZAYN - What I Am

5. Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes - Going Home

6. Meghan Trainor and T-Pain - Been Like This

Not really a fan of any this week. I don't like nil-voting so I'll give 'V' a vote for being the best of the bunch. It's definitely more interesting than his other one.

I can see why 'Enough (Miami)' didn't catch on. It's completely missing the spark from her earlier output. 'Belong Together' is one of the more upbeat tracks to come from the Noah-inspired hits of late I guess.

Zayn going MOR isn't a direction that interests me. 'Going Home' feels like it goes on forever, do we really need 10 minutes of it? I knew it from being Newcastle United's song.

I'd rather have 'Mother' back than 'Been Like This'. The worse of the 2 electro-swing entries at the start of the year.

We Can't Be Friends and Mark Knopfler only for me

Week 11:

Ariana Grande - bye | 11.0/10

Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love) | 10.0/10

Galantis, David Guetta and 5 Seconds Of Summer - Lighter | 6.0/10

Gracie Abrams - I miss you, I'm sorry | 5.0/10

Jax Jones and Zoe Wees - Never Be Lonely | 4.0/10

Clavish - Uh Uh (feat. Fredo) | 3.5/10

4batz - act ii: date @ 8 (remix) (feat. Drake) | 3.0/10

'eternal sunshine' is one of the best pop albums of this year so far  'we can't be friends' really did stick out an instant highlight, I love the production so much (it really does call back to songs such as 'TRUSTFALL' and 'Dancing On My Own', two huge bangers btw). I do love the writing on the song, there's a real emotional depth on 'eternal sunshine' which I think Ariana hadn't delved massively into on previous records. 'bye' One of the best songs of the year and probably my fav pop song of the year. There are few songs that make me want to burst into a dance every time I hear it lol. The best song from the album imo. I do prefer the original of 'act ii: date @8' but it does feel a tad too TikTok-core for my liking. Agreed that it does sound like a trashy attempt at making a Brent Faiyaz song + the Drake verse feels badly pasted onto the track. 'Uh Uh' certainly sounds like a Clavish track alright :kink: I really dislike the production tbh and there are far too many cringy lyrics for me to enjoy it. The hook is annoyingly catchy tho. I've never gotten the Gracie Abrams hype, it's satisfactory at best x. The new Jax Jones single remains mid as ever. 'Lighter' is a light bop but I do blame Guetta for blandifying it slightly

Week 12:

Cardi B - Enough (Miami) | 8.0/10

Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes - Going Home | 7.0/10

Mark Ambor - Belong Together | 3.0/10

V - FRI(END)S | 3.0/10

ZAYN - What I Am | 3.0/10

Meghan Trainor and T-Pain - Been Like This | -1.0/10

'FRI(END)S' feels like some trashy single that Olly Murs would release these days. One of the worst songs from BTS members' solo projects. 'Going Home' may be lengthy but it's certainly something different in the chart, more like this please. For comedy purposes only, I've taken the bold decision to listen to Meghan's new album :o 'Been Like This' is utterly atrocious. What a diabolically gargantuan pile of steaming crap. Not even auto-tune god T-Pain can save this crime against humanity :cheeseblock: 'Enough' is a banger! Very catchy + the production is great. I've concluded that the worst solo material from 1D comes from Zayn. Instead of just being bad, 'What I Am' also puts me to sleep. I guess that's good in some way... 'Belong Together' is pretty rubbish as well xx

I’m shocked at how few votes Austin received - but I guess at the time hardly anyone really knew it.
Yeah if we were to run it again now, I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Austin' finish top.
