I was thinking of doing another of my chart stats threads but for people who don't perform music as their primary career. Jason Manford, for example, has been in musicals, but is primarily a comedian.

We've had albums from him, Bradley Walsh, Alexander Armstrong and Chris Kamara chart in the top 10. Nick Knowles just scraped into the top 75 in comparison iirc...

Where the singles chart is concerned, it's primarily Christmas number ones I imagine. There's not many charity records outside of that which don't feature musicians at all.

Finding total sales figures for a lot of these examples seems quite difficult but I thought maybe I'd have some luck via this thread.

If you check with the Sports moderators, there is a thread somewhere that exists for songs by sportsmen and sportswomen that could be included here.

Not sure about other people that didnt release something for a charity, but I did recently rediscover this one from 2014;

David Baddiel and Frank Skinner given the Euros are approaching?

Matt Lucas - Thank You Baked Potato from 2020 comes to mind.

Also, Captain Tom’s You’ll Never Walk Alone from the same year.

Telly Savalas comes to mind. And on a completely different note there was Jennifer Lawrence's featured vocals on 'The Hanging Tree'.

There's plenty of actors who have had hits. Apart from the couple mentioned above, these spring to mind:

John Travolta - Greased Lightnin' (and others)

David Hasselhof - Jump In My Car

Bruce Willis - Under The Boardwalk (plus three others)

Nick Berry - Every Loser Wins

Robson & Jerome

Mark Wahlberg - Good Vibrations (as Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch) - which is quite a banger btw

Tracey Ullman - They Don't Know

Patrick Swayze - She's Like The Wind

Stefan Dennis - Don't It Make You Feel Good

Dennis Waterman - I Could Be So Good For You

Minnie Driver - Everything I've Got In My Pocket

Sid Owen - Good Thing Going

Then there are actors who turned singers, so I don't know if you count those, but I'm talking about people like Martine McCutcheon, Adam Rickitt, Sean Maguire, Jimmy Nail, Lindsay Lohan, Djo etc.

Hope that helps!

The actress who played Charlene in Neighbours has had a few hits I think.

Thanks for the responses!

I'm not sure whether to include actors who did end up becoming professional singers, as opposed to just doing the odd thing here and there. Or the other way round.

I suppose I could have a separate category - Sportspeople, Actors, Entertainers, Actors-Turned-Singers (and vice versa) etc. Thoughts?

This legend of course.

Separate category for Fishmongers it is. :D

Baz Luhrmann was what came to my mind immediately. All things considered one of the most interesting Number 1s ever.

Has anyone said Hoddle & Waddle yet?

Leigh Francis (aka Keith Lemon) would be one

Proper Crimbo (#4 2003)

I Got You Babe* / Soda Pop (#5 2004)

* This would then include Davina McCall and Patsy Kensit as they sang on this too

Peter kay (all starband)

Peter Kay (as Geradine mcQueen)

Peter Kay (as Brian Potter featuring matt luca and The proclaimers)

Peter Kay and Tomy Christie

Basically how did you miss Peter kay

Do they have to be "people"? Because you could probably count The Teletubbies, Bob the Builder, Lady Gaga, Chef, Crazy Frog, Mr. Blobby, etc.
