oml the youtube video stats....... 251k likes and 109k dislikes........

:cheeseblock: Doing much worse than I thought it was going to do. It had almost 120k likes in 2 hours last night. To then barely do another 120k in the following 17 hours... Video certainly stalled quite quickly in gaining views/likes.

Top 100 on Apple Music UK now at least. Although she does have 17? Eminem songs ahead of her, so that's hurting it a bit.

Still think it's really catchy and can still become a decent hit. Hoping we'll see the song pick up more support on streaming services. Katy's one of the most streamed females artists montly on the likes of spotify and the level of support for this is kinda shocking. Although I am holding out for the later addition to playlists like HHUK when they update on Monday.

Considering the level of hype/build up/budget and even talks of it being a comeback on the level of Mariah's Emancipation of Mimi... Of course it's only day 1 so hopefully it'll manage to pick up and do well long-term.

OMG at this from the Pitchfork review:

In the immortal words of Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, uttered moments before she died: “Katy Perry, please stop.”

They actually went there 💀💀

It's fine, nothing outstanding but the whole involvement with Dr Luke has just left a really sour taste in my mouth and it's hard to get over for me personally.

Yeah, pretty much this.

It'd be hypocritical of me to have any ill feelings towards the song because of Dr Luke's involvement when I've rinsed the likes of Say So and Big Energy in recent years (not that I like that he's involved in any of those songs), so I went into this with an open mind as I would with any song. I do like it, I'll get some plays out of it, though it definitely doesn't hit the way a Katy lead usually does. I think she could've had a really big moment with the right song (and maybe some less negative press - I doubt the GP are aware of the Dr Luke situation at all but having her fanbase / stan Twitter / the gays immediately wary of the song isn't going to help), but it was always going to be an uphill battle and I'm not sure this is the song to help her out. Some of the review headlines are unnecessarily harsh though, and they leave a bad taste in the mouth when you consider the pile on Katy received post-haircut. It's very easy to slate Katy it seems - give an inch and the media take a mile.

I'll bop for a bit though, and I'm definitely hoping there's better on the album!

There isn't anything to bop to the song doesn't go anywhere and ends without achieving anything? If it was notched up in production and the build up was a lot better it could have been quite good but the verses, lyrics and production are very very sub par
Trying to listen to clip on iTunes but says it’s not available in U.K. store yet it’s no4 on iTunes?

Doesn't have to be an 11/10 song to be a diet bop!

If you combine the fact that she has never been particularly liked by critics/ pop fans with her stupid choices this era and the song quality, it’s been one of the roughest releases I’ve seen online ever. Articles that never even do single reviews are doing them just so they can give Katy 1 star. It’s insane.

I've always liked Katy and When Your Gone was a masterpiece, such a shame this has happened, surely it must be for publicity for future singles/ albums? I really cannot see how anyone greenlighted any of this

So upsetting to see nothing has changed and she’s still the media’s punching bag.

Obviously she hasn’t helped herself in one element here but critics are always so quick to jump on her like it’s fun.

I'm glad Katy's at a point in her life now where she's got Orlando, a daughter, a happy life to live that she can be at peace with while rabid Kesha stans, the media and people who have been so desperate to hate her or jump on bandwagons do the absolute most to bring her down. I really don't think it'll be as bad for her to take this time around like the Witness era if things don't improve from here. Still very unpleasant though regardless. Let them scream into the void!

The thing is — this could have been a slam dunk. I do think people were ready for a Katy Perry comeback, and 'Never Really Over' proved critics can get behind her.

They completely fumbled it and the package isn't remotely good enough to suppress the Dr Luke can of worms. Disaster.

Yeah I had a lot of goodwill for Katy and even liked songs such as Small Talk lmao. I generally have liked most of her previous output but I think the Dr Luke criticism is a fair one, especially because it's a feminist anthem and she could've worked with literally anyone! Aside from that it just doesn't feel like a step forward in the same way that previous singles in maybe Never Really Over or to a lesser extent Harleys In Hawaii felt.

I think she could have hit it out of the bag with a different producer and just a overall better song. I know she does get a lot of hate and I was one of her supporters during the Witness era, and while some people do pile on too much, there's also the opposite of that I've seen from Katy fans (not saying here) who don't seem able to hold their fave accountable at all.

This. I don't get rhe hate. It's exactly what a KP lesd single should be. A quick reminder rhst if people weren't so quick tk hate on her, we probably woulds got a Roulette - Tsunami one two punch. Id thid song ss goof ss those two? No, bur it's a fun bop.

The Dr Luke situation as well was always going to be questioned more with Katy because of how high her profile is and just because of the way like others have said she has the star power and influence to pick and choose who she works with. I don’t imagine she’s short of offers but I feel like she’s kind of sold herself short here and tried to chase a big hit rather than making something what has genuine impact. Acts like Kim for instance who work with Luke just don’t sell stories or create click bait the way Katy does she’s a household name and amongst the hit makers of the millennium.

A side note and I know not everything has to be a statement or show some kind of huge leap sometimes things can just be fun but it feels like that’s almost only what Katy can do successfully. Compared to her peers she really does lack that growth artistically and hasn’t ever really made that transition successfully in a way a lot of her peers have and for someone 39 and who’s been in the industry for quite a while now her debut album is soon to be 16 this just feels quite flat and not like a step forward.

I do think there could be better tracks on the album but I feel like this is kind of the single most crucial to the campaign.
