Loving that Chappel is taking off, her album is really growing on me at the moment. Also it’s great to see an album taking off organically, hopefully it can follow stick seasons success earlier in the year. I hope HTG and RWS both manage to break into the top 10/20 at some point.

I do think auto play has been turned off by a lot of people in the last 10 days. I had two notifications from Alexa and something else asking me do I want to turn it off. Never had that before. So if that is the case the whole of the top 10 should be down a little

Great jump for 'Pink Pony Club', moving up to become Chappell's fourth highest song! It was first introduced to the forum in some capacity way back in 2020, when it was sent to the BuzzJack Song Contest, but it's taken until more recent months to properly click with me - happy it's been a chosen one from the album.

My Spotify is connected with Alexa and various other things and Alexa explained auto play then asked do you want to turn it off so if it’s doing that for everyone & the widespread viral articles and social media stories about it I imagine a lot of people are turning it off which will mainly effect the top 10 and the numbers just look down to me. Not just please please please, all of them look a little down.

(Of course I'm talking about 'Pink Pony Club's climb :kink:)

With regard to "Please Please Please", this is why I'm curious about the long term numbers on a lot of these 2024 hits. My hypothesis of late has been less about autoplay and more that for any other reason, people are just getting quicker to hearing new releases. The late discoverer is getting rarer, just like how it is on the album chart. So I need to see how they stack up in lifetime streams compared to hits of the last few years. It's a long way away but if "Beautiful Things" can overtake "Flowers" in streams in a few years, that's a definite sign that the numbers are genuinely way up and it's not just a temporary artificial inflation.

 

But back on "Please Please Please", if I put that into consideration, I don't think it's drop off is super suspicious. It's very commonplace for a lot of songs to jump in and out of TikTok curiosity rapidly, especially if they aren't fully embraced across the board. It'll probably be fine in the coming months but I just think the curiosity factor is waning and it's settling down into a streaming pace that's more sustainable. It sounds a little off kilter for a massive #1 smash hit so maybe the mass appeal isn't *quite* there in the same way as "Espresso" (this isn't shade). The album isn't even out yet either, and that can be another way to sustain streams. "you should see me in a crown" performed a lot better in its post-album release showing on the charts than when it was put out as a single, for instance.

Releasing/promoting to the radio, a potential music video and just general statement that it’s the second single to build up hype. As well as playlist support with it being the single will boost its numbers.
