Oh wow 41k already for The Cure is all kinds of amazing

Had no idea what kind of sales to expect from The Cure really with them not having released new music for so long (so the comparison to their last album's opening sales would feel pretty useless) - 40k midweek seems very healthy, glad they are coming for an easy second #1 as I hoped!

And 3 songs from it in the singles update at the moment :o I expect the lower two will drop out (only #95 and #100) but fingers crossed #79 is a comfortable enough position for 'Alone' to hang on to the end of the week.

When was the last time an act from Brazil charted in the UK top 40?

Possibly Aggro Santos in 2011? (Alok and Pabllo Vittar have both had charting songs in the last couple of years but neither made the top 40).

Christmas is coming !!!

54 - Wham !

57 - Mariah Carey

I was expecting Mariah to be ahead of Wham! but I’m glad that the latter is in front of the former

Delighted for The Cure as I never expected sales to be anywhere near where they are, plus its only their 2nd number 1.
The person who was wondering if casual could chart with PPC and RWS hitting ACR, it's 56th

That was me! Pretty happy with that prediction

They've only ever had two studio albums make the top 5, partly why I'm so surprised they've cleared 40K in 2024
Hopefully not , ideally hopefully neither I'd rather was a different song each year

But her wham and east 17 all have anniversary editions coming up

And Band Aid any news of Band Aid 40

Fantastic start for The Cure, the albums brilliant worth a listen if any one was thinking about it!
As BJ’s Mastermind approved expert, absolutely fantastic to see The Cure smash through 40k sales already. Had thought that 30k would be a good target for the week so they’ve exceeded even my expectations. Their last album sold less than 10k in week one, and that was back in 2008 when people still bought albums.
I think just the fact this is such a long awaited and teased album makes it a fundamentally different scenario to the last album being just another new album by them (although I am really surprised their album selling power had faded that much by 2008, their legacy feels so much greater than their previous album chart positions indicates and the great performance of this new album just goes to show that). Similar to Tears For Fears' comeback giving them a quite high selling #2 album after their last albums before their hiatus missed the top 40. Although in that case I didn't see it coming quite as much x
