Yes!!! So happy for FLO - I was praying for top 10 but it looks like ending the week on #5 or #6 is really possible.

Thrilled for them they deserve so much.

I know Christmas songs are down from last year but is it by a lot?

oh great for Flo, 7K already

Sabrina will overtake for sure

looking at last week's sales, Chappell did 8K and the fake Ed GH did 7.6K

so I'd say top 5 is almost certain, they just need 1K more and have #4 guaranteed

and then actually it's between them and that Korean band for #3

At least one of Sabrina Carpenter's low Christmas entries from last year might do well this time now she's an established artist.

Yeah, I'll be interested to see what it'll do, she has a Netflix Christmas special on the 6th, probably will start promoting it a week out. And when that starts, it might really boost those songs.

LP a bit lower than I was expecting, like I posted in the streaming thread, nothing between 30-70k would have surprised me, but being on the low side of that has done for such a high profile album off the back of such a successful return in the singles.

'Fruitcake' is getting a physical release this year too. I keep getting e-mails about pre-ordering it.

I wonder how much effect the Netflix special will have, in that case...

I wasn't at all sure how FLO would do, especially as it seemed like the little bit of hype they'd had evaporated quite a long time ago but that's definitely by far exceeded any expectations I had.

Good on them!

LPs sales are lower than I expected, kinda thought it would be like 50k with the singles performance, the decent streams there and the hype. Still great though!
No Gwen Stefani or Mary J. Blige even in the Monday update makes me very sad.
I was expecting much higher sales for Linkin Park, i thought with the singles doing so well and staying around that they could be looking at a 60k opening, looks likely to be around 40k now.
I know she's not exactly setting the pop world alight in 2024, but it is still sad to see Gwen Stefani outside the top40.

She's not even top 100, let alone top 40. I haven't heard the album yet but definitely she thought she would at least show up in the Monday mids.

It’s very difficult to compare year on year as Christmas falls on a different day of the week. I’m seeing it as though they are not down, they are just a week (or rather 5 days) behind. I feel that they are up on other previous years though, last year was just a very early and high year.

If we compare Spotify streams from the last few days, they are actually up on last year’s streams from the same date. Two things to note – obviously it’s a different day of the week, but also overall streams seem to be up compared with last year, so Christmas songs are finding it hard to compete.

exactly, you cannot compare Sunday streams o xmas songs vs. a Tuesday the previous year

just realised how low Linkin Park's sales are, but at least they'll hold up well thru the week thanks to streaming

crazy that Flo are on 7K while Shawn Mendes is just on 3K. The era was impossible to save no matter how long they postponed but 3K is really low

FLO have played the formats game well - there's a £14.99 3 x CD bundle, which have an exclusive track on each CD, individual member artworks and a signed card. I could see a lot of their sales total so far coming from this? There's also a standard CD and (as far as I can tell) four vinyl variants. It's very nice to see them Top 3 given that this debut album has been a long time coming for them!

I wasn't sure what to expect for Gwen Stefani, but to not even be Top 100 in the Monday midweeks is grim! There must be little to no awareness that she's got a new album out, although even as a fan who did know, I haven't felt a desire to buy this one. It's been 8 and a half years since her last album of non-Christmas music, so maybe a case of leaving it far too long.

I'm less surprised about Mary J. Blige because her previous album didn't make the Top 100 here either.

It shows that even in this era of artists managing decent album peaks in a lower sales and frontloaded climate, there's actually a lot of artists that haven't been able to take advantage of this, who haven't retained a loyal physical purchasing fanbase. There's also Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado who've recently bombed with new albums.

sucks that in some cases you "leave it too long" and it's a bad thing cos everybody forgets about you ie Nelly Furtado

but then I'd say if the label can sell it as a big comeback like The Cure the other week, that's a positive thing to "leave it too long"
