Posted February 23Feb 23 Hi all, I bring news that should hopefully be quite exciting for you all - after years of talk about upgrading the site, it's finally happening, and it's happening within days! Specific timescales will follow ASAP, once we figure out how the BJSC results are going to fit into things, but we're aiming to begin the upgrade on Monday evening (after the chart update). If all goes to plan, and it should, then it will be finished hopefully on Tuesday evening, but certainly no later than Wednesday, so we're back up and running with a fresh look for the Music Week midweek update. Some more information: Why is the site being upgraded? For many years, BuzzJack has been operating on Invision version 2. This version is significantly outdated and it's becoming increasingly problematic to manage. Emails aren't sending from the site, we're unable to get an HTTPS certificate as things currently stand, and on some browsers, people can't even access the site any longer. This has increased the urgency for an upgrade significantly. We have to migrate from Invision 2, to 3, to 4, before we land on the newly released Invision 5. Will everything transfer over? Generally yes! Your account, your posts, your avatar and signature, your profile information and your PMs will all be transferred in the upgrade. Phil will be migrating Suedehead's chart commentaries after the main upgrade too so we won't lose all of his hard work. What about the gallery, awards, etc? The upgraded site will have a gallery, but in the test upgrade, no images from the gallery transferred across. I'd recommend saving anything you need from there just in case, but everything we currently have is backed up (and quite honestly, many of the non-AF images in there are ancient and could do with a clear-out anyway...!). Awards will need to be re-added manually, and this may not happen immediately, but I have all of the awards information saved. The reviews page won't be migrated as things stand. The calendar will migrate to the updated site. Unfortunately, as things stand, the shoutbox will not be part of the upgrade. Will I be able to access the site during the upgrade? No - the site will be offline temporarily during the upgrade. Please see this Lounge thread in the meantime to join the BuzzJack Discord server, where I'll post any updates I hear before the forum's back. What will change? The look of the site will be different and much more modern. We'll be on the same software, just a significantly more advanced and modernised version, meaning the site will look so much fresher. Immediately, the theme may look basic - I will be modifying the theme after the upgrade to look much more like BuzzJack. Based on the test site, expect the forum to look something like this, but this has to be done manually so please bear with when the upgrade is finished while I get this going. The post editor will be different - BBCode is not part of Invision 5, and every post editor will feature a WYSIWGY (What You See Is What You Get) approach. All emoticons will be transferred across (this may need to occur manually so please bear with on that one), and social media embeds should become automatic without the need for BBCode. Will the Artist Forums remain? Yes! There is a "Clubs" feature on later Invision versions which is *perfect* for our Artist Forum system, ensuring they remain a part of the BuzzJack community. If you have any further questions, please ask them in here, or drop me a message on Discord (or socials if you have me there) when the site's down - I'll do my best to answer, or Phil can shed some light, he's been putting in a LOT of work behind the scenes to make sure the upgraded site works perfectly for us with a seamless transition.
February 23Feb 23 Buzzjack would lose some of its personality if it had no shoutbox. It's also great for announcing events such as BJSC listen throughs!
February 23Feb 23 shoutbox is Buzzjack culture and i refuse to be convinced otherwise x alternatively post the discord server link on the main page so we can turn discord chat into shoutbox
February 23Feb 23 Author Discord link is remaining in the Lounge so only members can access it And guys I'm sorry but the shoutbox isn't a priority, we'll look into it later but there are much more pressing concerns about the site right now.
February 23Feb 23 Author So are all the posts being transferred? I’m unsure given your answers. Yes - question 2!
February 23Feb 23 Poor shoutingsbox :( bj culture forever RUINED, going to the foghorn shouter in the foggy sky!!!
February 23Feb 23 Hope fix security risk message when get this update done That is literally the entire purpose of it :kink: (well not only that but it's the reason it's being fast-tracked to now x)
February 23Feb 23 I am hoping it will be a smooth transfer! Can't believe this day has finally come but v happy!
February 23Feb 23 Author To be more specific on timings, we're looking to begin the upgrade at 7pm GMT tomorrow (Monday)!
February 23Feb 23 Omg it's finally happening? :cheeseblock: Should've saved the announcement for April Fools' day.
February 23Feb 23 To be more specific on timings, we're looking to begin the upgrade at 7pm GMT tomorrow (Monday)! Just hope Monday music week sales come in before switch off
