CHART BATTLE REWIND

Remaining in 2009 for now, we revisit perhaps one of the most iconic chart battles of the noughties (at least on Buzzjack) when Cascada went head-to-head with Michael Jackson in the wake of his death at the end of June. Man In The Mirror emerged as his most popular track, despite only peaking at 21 on original release in 1988, and looked as though it would become a posthumous #1. Alas, Cascada threw a spanner in the works with the release of their Electropop smash Evacuate the Dancefloor, which became their first and only #1.

Which is your number one? Vote above. teresa

MJ for me. He's one of those artists where his number ones don't do his discography justice but MITM would've been one of the worthy ones imo.

For that reason alone, I've voted MJ - I'm not entirely convinced it's one of his absolute best songs.

poor Michael :/ Man in the mirror is a good one

back in 88 the US got it right (US #1) but the UK got it very very wrong only at #21

so really deserve the posthumus #1

that Cascada song is cheap and all kinds of mediocre and corny, the worst of the worst

I voted Cascada, sorry everyone! I love that Natalie got a wannabe RedOne production, called in a rent-a-rapper and still managed a song I consider extremely catchy. I never expected them to bounce back in their third era with a No.1, it isn’t the common dance act trajectory.

Definitely wouldn’t call Man in the Mirror a big MJ favourite of mine on the other hand but it’s nice it got its chance to shine after it peaked quite low back in the day. Obviously he did deserve a posthumous No.1 of some sort, at least his album was although it blocked Lungs for ages.

MJ. 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' is one of Cascada's weaker songs for me sadly and I say that as a fan of theirs generally!

Although technically speaking even 'Everytime We Touch' I'd probably not vote for against most MJ songs lol.

Man in the Mirror was definitely one that sounded right in that place and time only, but not one I return to massively these days next to the other MJ classics, it's strange how a song that was only a minor hit originally went on to have a completely different meaning attached to it and it is still a great story of a song.

Cascada is similar in sounding better in that time but that doesn't work to it's favour these days, I got some enjoyment out of it at the time, but it's complete trash that's dated awfully.

Voted for Evacuate the Dancefloor; a precursor to the club banger EDM-pop trend of 2010-12.

Man in the mirror underperformed originally in the uk cos it was a post-album single and didnt have a video unlike for example the crazy videos for Bad or The way you make me feel

This is how I feel (except MITM is one of my top 5 favourite MJ songs!)

Evacuate the Dancefloor is a BANGER! It always has been to me lmao.

Cascada.

Love MJ's music, but MITM isn't it for me.
