April 19Apr 19 Hope this can get a decent debut on Spotify today! Feels like this was teased more on TikTok than Aquamarine and High Fashion. And Charli is promoting it on her socials
April 19Apr 19 Just had a listen to this and it's really good.Definitely reminds me of Erotica, but thinking it wouldn't have been out of place on Madonna's Bedtime Stories.
April 19Apr 19 I’m getting janet. era Janet more than Madonna, but is such a sweet spot of that, Erotica and Bedtime Stories. I am loving everything about this era, she has such a strong assured sense of who she is as an artist and rather than just ripping off say Madonna or Janet, every song is a loving homage to her inspirations. Each time she releases something I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next, and I’m sure the album is going to be a huge contender for AOTY.

April 19Apr 19 Oh, this is gorgeous! 4/4. So dreamy.I can see that she's taken cues from Ray of Light - this sounds a bit like 'Swim'!
April 19Apr 19 I think this might be my favourite of hers now, it’s that good Can’t get enough of the airy vocals, the delivery actually reminds me of Cassie a bit, which is the highest compliment as I’ve always been obsessed with her

April 19Apr 19 I totally get the Janet era comparison that Liam made, it's absolutely got that vibe to it and that of course means I'm on board. I've been listening to her other stuff and, whilst it seems pretty decent, this is definitely my favourite of the bunch.Love how subtle the production is, the way it just twinkles and shimmies through the track, yet still casually builds towards a climax that feels different to where it began.
April 19Apr 19 yeah this is VERY mid 90's, even down to the mini spoken word at times. I'm digging it
April 20Apr 20 Pitchfork review:PitchforkAddison Rae: “Headphones On”An R&B-inspired single adds a new emotional wrinkle to Addison Rae’s rose-hued electronic pop formula. In short order, Addison Rae has become one of Gen Z’s most chimeric rising stars. She’s a keen student of pop divas past and present; a relentless nostalgia tactician, flaunting an old iPod Nano like the coveted new influencer gift; and a creative coconspirator who last weekend joined Arca at Coachella to perform their “Aquamarine” remix. Rae’s rose-colored vision of electronic pop suits this shaky cultural moment—it helps immensely that her featherlight music doubles as a smooth-brain release from the anhedonia of day-to-day life in America. Welcome to the Addison Rae era, then, where even the former TikTok personality’s harshest skeptics (see: me) have taken to her eccentric singles, which pledge obvious fealty to titans like Britney and Madonna while reflecting Rae’s own bizarre, infinite-scroll obsessions.Take the opening seconds of “Headphones On,” the latest taste of Rae’s forthcoming debut. Pivoting away from Ray of Light cosplay and stacked James Blake-style synths, she introduces her most R&B-inspired track yet with a swell of pitch-shifted, ululating vocals. Filled out with vaporous, jewel-toned chimes and a hip-swaying bassline, “Headphones On” gives glimpses of Janet at her breathiest as Rae coos over an aerodynamic beat. Her lyrics zero in on music as an escape from emotional crisis, whether as seemingly superficial as comparing herself to “the new it girl” or as heavy as mourning her parents’ relationship. “Headphones On” adds a new wrinkle to the Addison Rae formula, infusing her cotton-candy music with the kind of vulnerability that can make it feel like the outside world’s on mute.
April 20Apr 20 This is #18 in the mids, get that second U.K. top 40 Charli brought out Addison at Coachella yesterday - she was also wearing a 'protect the dolls' shirt in support of the trans community 💓
April 21Apr 21 Late to the party but loving thisGuess a 2nd top 40 is guaranteed considering the Mids
April 21Apr 21 Really good track, I didn't expect this production, I was immediately transported back to the mid 90s. Very lush soundscape.

April 22Apr 22 If Headphones On is your favourite new release this week, be sure to vote for Addision Rae in this week's Pop Track of the Week!

It’s the almost nonchalant delivery of the vocals haha. Cassie’s always had such an effortlessly cool vibe to her and I think Addison has really tapped into that too.Love that this is already shaping up to be a hit, it’s great to see quality winning sometimes 🥲
April 22Apr 22 Honestly, from Diet Pepsi onwards, as much as I've enjoyed most of the music, I've found it really hard to shake the cynicism that this is what Addison wants to do, and not just some label's idea of what would be a cool sound for her. It just seemed like such a departure from the vapid-seeming teenage girl doing TikTok dances and Gaga demos, to suddenly be giving blog-friendly, super credible, borderline Lana teas rather than Britney teas. And it's made it hard for me to see her as some "next big thing".I think this song might be the one to finally force me to shift that cynicism. The vision from the song to the video feel fully realised and I don't think it could be pulled off if Addison wasn't actually committed to this sound and this vibe. I think this might grow to be my favourite of hers, there's so much to unpack in it that just feels lush, luxurious and dreamy.
