Think any kind of "consecutive" record would be hard to break now thanks to album tracks charting/viral songs belatedly charting and breaking chains for artists.

Last Christmas' number of weeks at #1 depends on how Christmas falls each year. This year Christmas day is on Thursday (estimated for chart purposes) so cannot see it getting more than two weeks and next year on Friday which doesn't help much as the biggest streaming days are divided between two weeks (and Thursday streams will be estimated again).

Just saying that it gets "extra weeks" by default in some years but upcoming two years are the most difficul in that sense. Last year it was #1 for 3 weeks, 10 weeks in total now. So, I can see it getting the #1 weeks record in 4 years if it keeps on being the favourite go-to track each year.

Yes, an incredible 35 consecutive top 10 hits, I can't see that being broken anytime soon!

Yeah the only recent example I can recall to have get five in a row (with proper singles) not album bombs is Ella Henderson.

I mean there's certainly a chance, but I think it's a bit of a long shot. I wonder what odds bookies would give you for it!

Coming back to this, how close was Ordinary to beating I Believe in the 'old rules' chart? I lost track of how many weeks it was denied #1 due to ACR.

I think the Most weeks at #2 without going to #1 record will be the first to fall otherwise, we've had a few close shaves recently (MOTD & APT.)

To be fair I think Glee would still get just as many hits if the 3 track rule was implemented back then as they released new songs each week to cooincide with the show which would usually be the highest charting song of theirs the following week (or at least in their top 3 highest charting songs).

Taylor Swift will likely rack up quite a lot of top 10 hits still in the coming decade or two - she's on 33 currently I believe? 20 of those are from the 2020s alone. I know Taylor has the drive that she wants to become the biggest/best selling female artist of all time so can see her releasing a new album at least every 2-3 years for the forseeable future. She could eventually challenge for the #1 record as well although is only on 5 #1s at the moment (4 of these are from the 2020s).

Absolutely those songs shot up and down the charts faster than you can change your knickers (except DSB)

To be accurate, any record set during the sales-only period of the charts cannot really be broken during the streaming era as you're comparing apples to oranges, despite what they'll try and tell you.....so there are really two versions of each record; pre-streaming (only sales) and post-streaming....

There are a few records that were only set during the streaming era - such as being at every position in the Top 10 (down down to 28 i think isn't it - though of course that's based on the fake 'official' chart rather than the real actual true unit consumption chart....)

We've had a few close calls recently (Murder On The Dancefloor and APT) however nothing has yet beaten Frank Chacksfield's Terry's Theme From Limelight's 8 weeks from all the way back in 1953.

I Swear - by All 4 One had 7 weeks at No.2 behind Love Is All Around in 1994.

The Smurf Song had 6 weeks at No.2 behind You're The One That I Want in 1978.

'Ordinary' had 18 weeks at #1 on old rules, so level with 'I Believe'! Although 'Last Christmas' is on 16 and will surely overtake them both before the year is out.

It's on 10 officially, and would have gained 6 more under the old rules.

I think Kylies opening run of 13 consecutive top 10 singles with her first 13 releases wont be broken by another female.

Bryan Adams 16 week consecutive run at number 1 is probably safe aswell.

I imagine it's already been mentioned but Madonna's run of 35 consecutive top 10 singles will surely never be matched!

The whole concept of 'consecutive singles' doesn't map well to the digital era as what is or isn't a single (especially post-album singles) just isn't really rigidly defined any more.
