The UK Top 40 singles of the 1980s: listening sessions + polls: resuming on 19 April!

Featured Replies

Top 5

Blue Zoo - Cry Boy Cry

Sylvester With Patrick Cowley - Do Ya Wanna Funk

Daryl Hall And John Oates - Maneater

The Jam - The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had To Swallow)

Mari Wilson - Just What I Always Wanted

Simple Minds - Glittering Prize

Ultravox - Reap The Wild Wind

As usual I go for the danciest songs for top 3! The Jam song is glorious too and the Mari Wilson song is very catchy. Usually really like Ultravox but this is one of their weakest songs imo.

Tie Break: Duran Duran - Save A Prayer (but I prefer Shut Up And Dance's hip hop version sampling it from 1995!)

  • I've decided it's best to postpone the next listening session as we're a bit too busy to complete the prep by this Sunday. I'm out the following Sunday, so we'll reconvene on Sunday 14 December at 16:

This Sunday's session brings us to the end of 1982, and as I'd have needed to take a break in the series soon anyway, this will be the last session for a couple of months.

This makes it an ideal time for a roundup of the bonus options from the previous Sunday Synctube series, where these have been added to since the last roundup at the end of the US #1s series - so that's tracks from UK #2 albums (from the UK #1 albums series), new UK Top 10 hits that haven't gone Top 3 (from the UK #2s and #3s series), and US #2 singles (from the US #1 albums series).

Participants are welcome to nominate up to three songs from the combination of the following lists - those with the most nominations will be played at the end of Sunday's session. I've put the songs which have already been played in this series in square brackets - I'd prefer not to repeat these, but can do if the demand is there:

The opening post in this thread put this in context - we still play new hits of the week (UK #1 album tracks, new UK Top 3s and new US #1s) at the end of each session!

Addison Rae - Aquamarine ('Headphones On' is my favourite from this album but I quite like the idea of 'Aquamarine' as a less obvious pick, so why not)

Lily Allen - Relapse

sombr - 12 to 12

Sylvester With Patrick Cowley - Do Ya Wanna Funk

The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go/Straight To Hell

Tears For Fears - Mad World

Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker
