  • I love it a lot and the video is great, but the second half is where the magic happens. It's amazing how she pours so much emotion into just a few words and a great lyric.

I may be wrong! I often misinterpret lyrics and meaning. 🥲

It's definitely "she's got away", the video I saw had lyrics captioned.

Genius Annotation:

Here, Chappell subtly switches the lyrics of the prior line from “She’s got a way” to “She got away.” While it’s a fairly simple and minor change, the meanings are significantly different.

“She’s got a way” indicates that the muse has a charm and allure to her, which attracts Chappell.

In contrast, “She got away” suggests the girl is no longer in Chappell’s life, conveying a sense of heartbreak and longing.

The repetition and alternation of these lines after another symbolize a loop of the same emotions, fluctuating from captivation to yearning.

In a way it feels like a good follow up to the Giver and from both tracks you can kind of see the direction she will be going on the new album.

I think all her previous work is better but i do enjoy this aswell.

Hopefully another number 1 for her.

One of the songs of the year for me already. Flawless. No notes.

She’s such a special talent for this generation.

I've given this a few listens now to see if it gets any better as a few of her other songs have taken time to click with me, but nah. This is average at best.

I like this one. Good Luck Babe is still the only song of hers I find absolutely essential but I think this is my second favourite of hers to date. Agree that the second part really lifts it and I can see it continuing to grow on me

Completely obsessed with the Cocteau Twins and the Cranberries of it all. I was nervous after 'The Giver' felt more pastiche than a reference, but this works perfectly

I think the giver is fun, I enjoy it and I wouldn't say it's bad but I think people expect more emotional, unique sounding songs from her - I mean hot to go works and it's just a fun song she made because she wanted a dance for her live shows 😅 the giver and the subway aren't really comparable as they're both there to do different things, I like that she can switch between the two vibes

This has been instant love from first listen. I agree it really brings to mind Cocteau Twins and that 90s shoegaze/alternative sound, and I think it's wonderful we have someone using their starpower to harken back to this sound rather than imitate what's popular now. As much as The Giver fell flat for me, I do think this coming straight after confirms that she's not afraid to experiment which makes every release much more interesting.

I can't get into The Subway at all. Wasn't big on The Giver either. Good Luck Babe is such a superior song, these two feel like not on the same level.
