Everyone seems to be obsessing over the random contest lore drops we’ve been getting the past months, what has been everyone’s favorite so far? Also drop some more random stories about contests past if you want 🤪

mine is the utter shock of hearing about people being able to change their entries midway through the contest, like if you’re gonna go with something why not stand by it? 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

  • Did someone not get their mum to refresh the forum for the confirmations thread and submit because they were unavailable and really wanted an entry and I think they knew someone else wanted it 😭

A (host!) country was disqualified after attempting to fix the results by changing at least one participant’s votes by themselves (and notifying them post hence??).

That time when Ben's Sanctuary were incorrectly disqualified when they actually should have qualified...

i’m sure i don’t know what you’re talking about

I think one of the most iconic/memorable to my brain was THE BAN LIST.

Prior to confirmations, people would nominate 3 songs to be banned due to being deemed too cheap and if they got enough votes, they were banned. This was pre-framework, I’m thinking around the time Love The Way You Lie and stuff like that was being entered.

A camp idea, though wholly more complicated than just having a mod veto system of course.

I have recalled the time where people were so up in arms about the 'unfairness' of the veto system that the mods in exasperation dropped it for one contest and nothing happened (I think one or two 'of the time' vetoed entries showed up and didn't do much of note).

Though, I say, nothing happened, I believe that was actually a break contest so the mods could finalise the framework so there was evidence behind their vetoes rather than vibes. Not that vibes had sent them too far wrong but some at the time disagreed.

BJSC 64 where the hosts disappeared midway through and mods had to step in and go to One Big Final, and the semis weren't revealed I think until a year later or something, was an experience

You could change entries mid contest?!!! 😂

I think I heard something about this when slinkee minx got entered a couple months ago

also speaking of the veto panel getting massive backlash: Blushgate anyone?

was that not the contest Snbrn/Kerli won after having been vetoed the previous contest? or is that a different story

That's a different one, SNBRN was 73 I think, this one was 54. Won by Postiljonen, quite an inspired winner in the end.

But definitely incidents similar to that where songs got vetoed and people were mad or songs didn't get vetoed and people were mad ('I Love It' in 45 one I definitely remember being a good example of the latter, this was prior to it being a UK hit, it was just everywhere on Scandipop AND Pitchfork if memory serves so was a hugely obvious pick) that led to the mods having to put in a framework.

That is a fave. Weren't we waiting for quite a while with no indication of what had gone on before we had to abandon the semis? Like multiple days. Insane to think about.

I won 63, was it me?? I genuinely cannot remember. :’) But my 2014 self was a mess so it’s very possible!

I had been traveling for Eurovision and involved in some [REDACTED] drama if it was april/may 2014.

That was the contest before I joined - I started reading one of the results threads at the time and had no idea what was going on
