Couldn't stand the Punk Rocker song.

'It's Chico Time' it happened still Chico will always have the memory of knocking Madonna off the #1 spot. I believe he followed up with his version of D.I.S.C.O. and then the following year Curvy Cola Bottle Body.

Ha, well that was definitely a moment in (Chico) time. What a bizarre song to get to No.1, it sounds like something a Pontins entertainer might perform in front of holidaymaking kids for a laugh. A fortnight at UK No.1, good for him! I always liked him on X Factor, he was quite a personality and I also remember being shocked at the microphone in water thing.

But it's not my cup of tea so would be below Sandi and Leona for me, but 'go Chico, go Chico, go' is a bit of an earworm.

Poor Madonna being knocked off with Sorry by Chico and then her Hard Candy album in 2008 by Scooter. Different times...

I admire Chico for what he made out is his 15 minutes of fame (similar to Cheeky Girls)

Although don’t google what he’s been up to since…..(one of the things is not great at all…)

This list so far is just songs I'd forgotten existed, and for good reason! Although I'm absolutely here for Chico above Sandi - I would possibly have that last.

well this annoyed me a lot at the time, though I gave it the generous one week at 74 in my charts for the funky backing track. Listening to it now...gosh it's better than a lot of stuff in the current charts! I really don't mind it in an Uptown Funk sort of way. Colour me surprised!

19 The Notorious B.I.G. - Nasty Girl (feat. P Diddy, Nelly, Jagged Edge & Avery Storm)

Kept off #1: Chris Brown - Run It! (feat. Juelz Santana)

Last year 2Pac achieved a posthumous #1 single with 'Ghetto Gospel' and now attention turned to the East Coast, as the Notorious B.I.G.'s Duets: The Final Chapter record was released, over 8 years after he was killed in a drive by homicide. This project was led by Biggie's sole U.K. #1 hit 'Nasty Girl' which also features P Diddy, Nelly, Jagged Edge and Avery Storm - plus shed loads more names in the music video if that wasn't enough, from Pharrell to Usher to Naomi Campbell appearing. The opening Biggie verse in this song is taken from his track 'Nasty Boy' which aptly featured on an album called Life After Death. The second verse, taken on by Diddy, is also lifted from 'Nasty Boy' and attempted in Biggie's style. The rest of the song, including the hook from Jagged Edge, has no resemblance to 'Nasty Boy' but that chorus is also inspired by a track Biggie featured on, 'Player's Anthem'. The production was handled by Jazze Pha who is also known for songs like 'Area Codes' by Ludacris and Ciara's '1, 2 Step' (who could forget "this is a Jazze Phizzle productshizzl" *.*). 'Nasty Girl' spent a fortnight at #1 after initially debuting at #2 behind Arctic Monkeys.

On paper "grab your titties for ____" being used as the hook on a posthumous release sounds ludicrous but Biggie's verse is so filthy that perhaps it is fitting after all? Just unconventional. I actually quite like the Jazze Pha groove on this song but the guest list is pretty bloated and I end up checking out after the introductory verse from Biggie. Diddy's contributions are the main slog here and I have even less reason to want to hear of these endeavours now he's such a disgraced figure. Meh, there's a good beat and catchy hook in there, but overall I wish something like 'Hypnotize' could've been Biggie's posthumous #1 hit instead, like it was on the Billboard Hot 100.

P Diddy blocking Chris Brown is an unfortunate meeting of two problematic artists here. But indeed, pre-controversy, Chris Brown burst on to the scene with Juelz Santana collaboration 'Run It!'. This song may have been stuck behind Biggie and co. here but did make it all the way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. I don't have strong feelings about 'Run It!' as a song, it's better than his other #2s (the bar is on the floor with 'Champion' and 'Don't Wake Me Up' though) but I'm not particularly gutted that it missed out on #1 status here.

I do not remember the Notorious BIG song - In general I don't like that post-death releases at all. For 2 Pac they really milked the cow to death and none of that songs were really worth to listen. For my ears 2Pac was always quite average. Now this is Biggie and I rate him quite a bit higher than 2Pace as he had some great tunes in the 90s.

That Sandi Thom song I quite like and it would be definately in the Top 10 here.

Chico Time is good for a laugh but nothing more.

Purposely not familiar with this one. The line up is all kinds of hideous enough to me.

Certainly not as tasteful as the posthumous 2Pac #1 but I do have a soft spot for 'Nasty Girl' (albeit one I'd definitely be less inclined to want to listen to again these days for obvious reasons). I don't think I actually knew that it was just based off one of the songs from 'Life After Death'!

Chris Brown's catalogue is mostly easy to dismiss for just not being very good regardless of what you make of him as a person but I still think 'Run It!' is a banger and his best song, if he had to have a UK #1 I'd have greatly preferred it to be that over the song that did eventually get him one.

I have to admit, I enjoy listening to IWIWAPR in a nostalgic sense but can’t argue about the lyrics. 😂 What If I’m Right is definitely my favourite of the two, I remember being gutted it failed to make the top 20 at the time lol.

Never was a fan of either It’s Chico Time or Nasty Girl. ICT is what it is, a cheap novelty cash-in, Nasty Girl had a catchy hook but other than that I never cared for it. Can’t say I care much for both number twos kept off the top spot either, though Beep getting there would’ve at least given PCDs 3 #1s on the bounce.

“It’s Chico Time” isn’t exactly good but does sound better than a lot of the talent show dross when you listen to it now.

“Nasty Girl” is pretty good, though I probably wouldn’t put it very much higher as I suspect the quality will be ramping up fairly quickly soon.

18 Akon - Smack That (feat. Eminem)

Kept off #1: Justin Timberlake - My Love (feat. T.I.)

Senegalese-American artist Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, or better known mononymously as Akon to me and you, followed up a successful debut era with sophomore record Konvicted. His fortunes were looking good, after securing an Eminem feature for the lead single, following a lengthy period where he'd stopped doing them. The two met during a recording session for rapper Obie Trice, signed to Shady Records, who achieved a U.K. top 10 hit of his own back in 2003 called 'Got Some Teeth'. Akon and Eminem hit it off and quickly became friends. 'Smack That' was produced by Eminem and also written by him alongside Luis Resto, Mike Strange and with further input from Akon. The two felt that the song was a good mash-up of their personalities and would act as a fun club record. 'Smack That' debuted in the U.K. chart at #12 but climbed to #1 a week later, spending a sole week there. This was Akon's second U.K. #1 following 'Lonely' the previous year but already Eminem's 7th chart-topper, his last of the 2000s, but still with the relevance to achieve more into the 2010s and even 2020s. 'Smack That' appears to have stood the test of time with both 1.5B Spotify streams and YouTube views, that symmetry.

'Smack That' has its high points, it's certainly catchy and I'm sure would sound great in a club setting. There is also some nostalgia attached for me as I had a friend who would recite the Eminem rap word for word. All of these years later I still remember it in full thanks to her. But this placement felt fair as the suggestive chorus is quite basic and throwaway, plus gets a little repetitive after a while. I also don't love Eminem's lower register on the song even if that contribution was something different for him. The production feels a bit dated now as well. But what do I know if it's still so popular!

This collaboration blocked fellow team up 'My Love', by Justin Timberlake and T.I., from reaching #1 here. Timberlake was on fire with the FutureSex/LoveSounds era even if it produced better singles than 'My Love', but I still would've liked to see that at #1 instead. The roles were reversed in the U.S., as 'Smack That' was stuck at #2 for five weeks, blocked by none other than 'My Love' amongst others. Both songs were nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the Grammy Awards, with 'My Love' also winning out there, so the accolades for that were not too shabby after all!

Happy Akon Saturday cheer

'Smack That' is OK but yes too repetitive - I prefer his 2008-9 hits even if they were more commercial, they have the nostalgic synths to them.

Eminem of course has better tracks too.

It kept 'My Love' off #1 then? - that was a track I loved at the time, production fab, and it does sound ahead of its time with the trap style 'drop' to it in the chorus.

I liked Smack That at the time. It was released around the time I was finishing high school and it was a staple at Graduation parties and end of year parties. Plus I also had a friend who was obsessed with Eminem and Akon, so he hammered this song.

I'm less keen on it now though.
