Picked a bad time to start reading this again as 'I Kissed A Girl' being ahead of 'Viva La Vida' is absolute heresy xxx

(Will try and catch up with the rest since I last posted at some point hehe)

I’m kind of glad Viva La Vida is placed there. I’m sort of numb to it now, I really liked it at the time but due to overplay and over praising on this very site, it bores me a little these days.

Never really had time for that Katy Perry song.

Am I surprised our rankings wouldn't align?!

Think I'm the same with the Coldplay song

I should have added to Katy Perry - I prefer Hot N Cold and Thinking Of You (video featuring an early celeb crush of mine in Matt Dallas)

Viva la Vida would probably have been my number 1, I've tired of many Coldplay songs over the years but that was has managed to avoid getting old for me.

Viva La Vida is very good apart from a few cringe anachronistic lyrics 'Roman cavalry choirs are singing'.

I thought 'I Kissed a Girl' was a really refreshing song to come and be huge at the time, in 2008 there was a lack of pure fun pop in that ilk. Of course she's bettered it many times over since.

I totally thought she'd be a one hit wonder at the time, how wrong I was!

Agreed, there is a thing as too much airplay and that song has had far, far too much, 18 years on it is still almost inescapable.

As classic as it is, I’m bored stiff with it and there are lots of other Coldplay songs I’d rather hear get some more radio love.

I did love I Kissed A Girl back in 2008 but it’s aged terribly and she has done far better since so I never listen to it now really.

Not a fan of “I Kissed A Girl”: musically it’s very of its time let alone lyrically.

“Viva La Vida” would probably be my #1 too I’m afraid, as basic and overplayed a choice it is.

'I Kissed A Girl' has aged like milk for me as well although a pre-fame Kesha being in the music video is a fun pop crossover

'Viva La Vida' is epic and one of the two big favourites in your top 10 that I was referring to before... so rooting for the other one now lol

Damn watch it be my number 8!

Katy Perry left the American Idol judge panel two years ago! But, the overall point you were making there still stands.

The funny thing about not using the name Katy Hudson because of the actress, is now the actress Kate Hudson has released music too!

Kissed A Girl is decent, but the follow-up was better, and Viva La Vida is my top rater of the year pretty much, number one or non-number one, I expect. Fond memories of Pet Shop Boys suddenly launching into it at Barcelona's Poble Espanyol courtyard gig on the day of Michael Jackson's funeral. Ironically I had gone to the O2 to buy tickets for their gig there at the box office only to find Michael Jackson had turned up and box offices closed. Plus side, Poble tickets were cheaper, I stood right at the front, it was brilliant, and there were zero ticket re-sales: you picked them up on the day with your passport and credit card as proof as you went in.

8 Duffy Mercy

#2s held off #1: Nickelback - Rockstar, H Two O ft Platnum - What's It Gonna Be, Leona Lewis - Better In Time/Footprints In The Sand

It's time for me to tell a story (and make it all about me for a bit!)

In 2003, 18 year old Herbs wanted a fresh start. After going through a pretty sucky time in 6th form, the opportunity arose to head off to Uni. And after falling in love with the place on an Open Day, the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (since renamed to Aberystwyth University) called my name. A world away from the rest of the world. It was perfect.

Yet during my 1st year of uni, I was still firmly in the closet and not ready to be myself. I went to over half of my lectures (some with a certain Green Party leader - my new claim to fame!), but on the whole I went in on myself. TV, music and forums (Cool Clarity at the time) were my comfort blanket. For you young folk, this was back in the day of square box TV sets and five channels. C4 was my constant fave - home to one of my all time fave shows in The Secret Life Of Us. But at points during the day certain programmes were replaced with S4C - the Welsh version of channel 4.

Where does all this link to Duffy you might ask?!

Well, it turns out, Wales had their own version of X Factor. It was titled 'Wawffactor' and ended up having three seasons. I think I casually watched it at different points. Think X Factor on a heavily reduced budget and you'll get the idea. Across the 3 seasons, none of the winners really amounted to much. But two of the runners up did. One was Peaky Blinders actress Aimee-Ffion Edwards. The other was a certain Aimee Duffy.

Four years after she finished runner up on Wawffactor, she'd re-appear as Duffy. And 'Mercy' was an instant smash, spending five weeks at number one and holding off newly crowned X Factor winner Leona Lewis and Nickelback. This was followed by further hits and a massive album in Rockferry.

Back in 2008 I was more of an Adele fan - and I remember some people comparing Adele & Duffy, with the latter seeing more success with their first albums. Many expected Duffy to return with a big second album, particularly when we know what became of Adele! But a poorly judged advert appearance and the lukewarm reception to the 2nd album's lead single stopped any momentum Duffy had.

Still this is a cracking pop song and the one that I grew to like more over the years.

And still no Take That appearance! What the hell am I doing?!

I’m a huge sucker for an 80s throwback so I love “Mercy”. There are a couple of other good throwback style tracks to come but think “Mercy” would have been in my Top 3 here d’oh!

Yeah I fully expect Mercy would have been in a lot of people’s top 3 - so was a bit nervous about this reveal!
