My favourite Shawn song! YEEESSSS! I wasn’t sure we’d get this at all when he was announced, but yay! Love that Troye song. Great choice to start with! That Conan Gray song is gorgeous and I love that Ruel song too! David, George and The Weeknd are bops! Up there as my faves of theirs though. So we’ll see what that means for them and getting my votes in future rounds.

8-10 are servicable, fun bops! I like the Nik song and I’ve heard it before but it’s not really my “thing” at all. Luke’s song is fun enough. Never wanna hear that Fred song… again. 🫠

Just to add some thoughts to my ranking:

• Blinding Lights is one of my ultimate Weeknd faves so was unlikely to rank it lower than top. A safe and smart choice for round 1.

• Nik Kershaw is a complete discovery for me and what an introduction!! Loved it on first listen. Also great discoveries from Conan Gray and Eric Saade - intrigued to see what they'll both bring in future rounds.

• Faith never gets old for me so was always going to give it points. George has dipped in a few genres so he's another whose song choices are going to be interesting.

• Life on Mars? is good but I've never been mad about it. I can't fault the rationale behind choosing it though.

• Numbers 7-9 are okay but not what I'd listen to through choice.

• 10-13 weren't delivering for me this time. 💔

Mostly not beating any 'just voting for existing faves' allegations here but I did really like the Guitarricadelafuente track, enough to put it ahead of a George Michael song that while obviously a classic I don't quite consider to be an absolute essential, and 'Blinding Lights' which I like but don't ever need to hear again (and also have never thought it was among his best songs anyway).
