It was then given to Mary J. Blige with the finished song spending six weeks at number 1 in the US. It was her fifth UK top 10 hit.
Yesterday at 19:161 day A good start into the Top 10. One of the best synth-pop songs + my favourite song from MJB. Not bad!
Yesterday at 19:331 day Suburbia is one of my favourites from the Pet Shop Boys, I like the intensity in the verses. Fade To Grey sounds dated to me. Family Affair gets pretty repetitive at times but it's got a catchy hooky and you can't go wrong with that Dre beat!
Yesterday at 21:061 day I do like Suburbia, but it isn't one of my absolute faves of theirs. It was a great choice to remix it for the single though as the album version wouldn't have been anywhere near as big a hit.Fade to Grey is wonderful, a definite synth classic and one that somewhat underperformed by only peaking at #8. It sounds like something that should have easily made the top 3 to me.Family Affair is another brilliant one, it's probably my favourite R&B track of its era. I didn't think much of it when it first came out but it grew on me enormously after a couple of weeks and I ended up buying it - it was great to see it turn into such a hit for her, the following two singles were also among her best <3
Yesterday at 21:211 day Aww, I'd hoped Fade to Gray may be able to win, but great to see it in the top 10. It's one of the songs I most associate with the early 80s dark synthwave movement and it still sounds fantastic. Live Forever is probably my favourite to miss the top 10, I'm glad to see the tour get it a new peak, Definitely Maybe-era Oasis has aged really well.

I do wish 'Rent' had finished higher than 'Suburbia' but both being so close to the top 10 was totally deserved.'Fade To Grey' is certainly a synth classic and it still sounds great today!'Family Affair' is a bit of its time I think, and I do find it a little overplayed these days, but it's still fairly iconic and was part of a great run of singles from her.Can we get a list of the top 8 in alphabetical order before we carry on? I can't remember what's left!
22 hours ago22 hr I like the surprise of not remembering left! Though the two I think are favourites to win are both still in (Robyn and LP)
21 hours ago21 hr Very pleased Visage have made it into the top 10 (honestly I might have predicted it'd be a little higher than that!) <3 and 'Family Affair' is an absolute banger too so the top 10 is off to a flying start.Much prefer 'Rent' to 'Suburbia' myself out of the PSB songs.
17 hours ago17 hr All of the top 8 were in the top half of my list (and probably many of us can say that, hence they are so high). And half of those were in my original nominations. So keeping my fingers crossed for Smooth Criminal, In The End, Dancing On My Own and Ain’t Nobody.
6 hours ago6 hr SO pleased that my +50 'Fade to Grey' made the top 10 here 🥰 I thought it could be a winning contender until I noticed it getting a +1 score, in addition to further small points, so lowered my expectations a bit. It's one of my all-time favourite songs as a total early '80s dark synth loon. That intro and the drums are particularly breath-taking. The deadpan male vocals and sophisticated French female ones are an intriguing mix. The whole thing feels very mysterious, hypnotic and out of this world. What a striking music video as well.I still have two of my top 5 left so rooting for one of those to win now.
6 hours ago6 hr Love all Pet Shop Boys songs from the 80sSad that both Rent and Suburbia missed the Top Ten❤️Fade To Grey is the best synth song ever I love this song so much I hoped it could win❤️Im not really a Fan of Family AffairNow I’m hoping that Ain’t Nobody can win

She continued to contribute to some of their recordings, including this one from 1983. A remix of the song got to number 6 in 1989 while a cover version by LL Cool J topped the chart in 1997. Richard X vs Liberty X and Felix Jaehn featuring Jasmine Thompson have also had top 3 hits with covers.

The Beatles - Yesterday 1306ptsWriters - John Lennon, Paul McCartneyTop scores - ...ready for it 49, Jade 48, Julian 47Low scores - Jason 2, detonate 2, ElectroBoy 11Average score - 30.4Yesterday is the oldest song in the final, first appearing on the Beatles 1965 album 'Help!'. It was not released as a single in the UK as it was a solo recording by Paul McCartney and too different from what they were doing at the time. It was released in the US, topping their singles chart for four weeks. After the expiry of the Beatles contract with EMI in 1976, it was finally released as a single in the UK.

2 hours ago2 hr 'Ain't Nobody' is good but it's never been up there as one of my absolute favourites so there's quite a few other songs I would have liked to see above it.And this may be a bit controversial but I don't rate 'Yesterday' anywhere near as highly as lots of other Beatles songs, even though it often crops up in lists of best songs ever written and is reportedly the most covered song in history. It's not a bad song at all ofc but I don't think it would even be in my top 30 Beatles songs!
