Go for a toilet break! That's what I did when 'Madame X' was announced, think I was gone 20 minutes! 😂

There’s so much to take In for this album and I’m still not even finished yet!! This is gonna take so many listens to fully absorb and take in but I’m genuinely blown away by how intricate and produced it is and how it’s genuinely nothing like Confessions 1.0!

Still reinventing and pushing boundaries this is a real return to form that’s all I can say for now.

13 hours ago, Sour Candy said:

I have a feeling that the pre-album singles will be the worst songs on the album (IFSF aside) which would be so typical from her since Hard Candy days.

And after one listen, this is exactly what happened!

But the album is great, her most vivid body of work in years. I find it interesting that this is perhaps the first time when she has addressed her history and career in such poignant way. It feels like a victory lap of a sort? I could argue that none of the songs are career highs but they don't have to be, it's still a strong effort.

"If CONFESSIONS II has a contemporary analogue, it’s Róisín Machine, a moment of pre-transphobia brilliance by Róisín Murphy on which she told a fragmented, fantastical version of her life story atop crunchy, vintage-toned club music."

This comment in Pitchfork made me scream (with excitement and at the deserved Róisín drag)

Feeling very vindicated for seeing the vision from the beginning. Time to dive in x

This thread is so long but it's the first time I'm here and I ain't gon' read the other pages xo

Listening to this on a Friday morning, as you do 😀 Very fun so far, she clearly sees the dancefloor as a spiritual construct! Bonus points for the lyric 'Venus in Taurus' in 'Good For The Soul' as I have Venus in Taurus!!! ♀️

Oh my gosh, shes BACK!!! I love this album

Top 5:

  1. Danceteria

  2. One step away

  3. School

  4. L.E.S Girl

  5. Love Sensation

Surprisingly Bring Your Love is one of my least favourites on the album!

At work so I can’t give a full review but this feels like a triumph of a project.

Nostalgic but not dated. Referential to the original and plucks from the same brain but is no way copying or repeating just for a cheap win. Varied, lyrically superb and the pacing of the album allows everything to breathe wonderfully.

The slow start that SMASHES into Bring Your Love and then keeps you in dancefloor heaven with Danceteria? 10/10 x

It’s a really strong album, I think it will grow over time - especially some of the songs I’ve ranked/rated lower at this early stage.

It’s the most experimental she’s been since Ray of Light, lots of really interesting twists and turns in most songs. In that respect it’s a quintessential Madonna album, never giving people what they expect, making an album completely on her own terms and somehow giving us what we didn’t know we wanted or needed. Mother knows best etc etc.

I’m a pop queen at heart, so for the most part the strongest moments for me are where she leans into the pure joy and immersion of all out pop. However, I also really appreciated the more introspective final third including the Erotica coded pair (My Sins and Betrayal) are sublime - the spoken word sections are so sumptuous and divine.

Rank

01 Love Sensation - pure distilled pop joy

02 Danceteria - would have loved a 5+ minute sprawl on this one

03 Bizarre - if there’s a hit to be had here, this is it

04 Fragile - just gorgeous

05 I Feel So Free - the necessary link between Confessions 1 and 2 but also such a statement of intent

06 Betrayal - could be ripped straight from Erotica

07 My Sins Are My Saviour - another perfect example of updated classic Madonna

08 Bring Your Love - enjoying the new mix and slightly more natural vocals

09 Read My Lips - what Hard Candy wanted to be but wasn’t because she took her eye off the ball

10 L.E.S Girl - the sun coming up on the club night

11 The Test - a gorgeous bookend to Little Star

12 One Step Away - gorgeous vocal, but there’s not really much to it as a song

13 Good For The Soul - slightly flat vocal on this one and it doesn’t really go anywhere

14 Love Without Words -

15 School - interesting but feels like a tour interlude

16 Everything - same as above

It's so good i wanna cry - what a stunning, stunning album, might prefer some songs more than the others but genuinely no skips for me. The production, melodies, transitions, emotions, top notch. Even Read My Lips which i was less keen on in the film is so glorious. Hope she achieves the commercial success she deserves with this.

Well she certainly picked the best tracks for the singles on this with Bring Your Love & Danceteria & Love Sensation
