'Club Cant Handle Me' is very poppy dance in production but the chorus is great! It's like how 'Green Light' by Roll Deep was saved by a great pop chorus.

Yeah no complaints with that in last. Rubbish and I agree with you on 'Wavin Flag definitely deserving the 1 that week as don't care for 'Frisky' either.

Time to wheel out my Grange Hill (90s version) mash-up of Flo Rida. I remember thinking for ages, 'what does this melody remind me of?' and then it came to me. Former BJ member Hitstastic helped with the mixing. It needs a remaster these days as it's 16 years old but I do think the idea holds up, especially in the middle eight rap.

I do like the original, I always thought it was Nicole Scherzinger on the chorus, but must just be a soundalike.

Telephone is a really good one too, loved that climb to No.1 when the video came out! I love when a superstar collab is actually good, as it doesn't always happen.

'Telephone' was a more musically basic direction after the creative genius of 'Bad Romance', but still good fun! The majority of my memories related to this single release are around that video, though. I was completely in awe and it was the talk of school the next day! I had quite a few Gaga loons in my friendship group and we changed our Facebook profile pictures to stills from the video lol I remember someone choosing the honey bun that got thrown to the ground for theirs lmao. PlentyOfFish product placement in the video screams early 2010s also!

The repeated "put your hands up" in 'Club Can't Handle Me' feels very of the era. It's a decent enough song although I mostly associate it with blocking The Saturdays from #1. I wasn't too mad about 'Missing You' slipping to #3 by the end of the week as that was a pretty bland affair.

I thought it was Nicole too, it sounds identical to her. BBC even think it was...

Shows I wasn't really deep in the charts even as late as August, I had forgotten completely about The Saturdays and the "'Missing You' 'nearly' got to #1" drama. Either that or it shows I didn't care about The Saturdays (sadly my last.fm records from the subsequent years has me playing them more times than I'd care to admit, so that can't be it)

I checked on the background vocals for 'Club...', with Wiki as the starting point, but also cross-referencing it with other places that also mention this mysterious Carmen Key character as the vocalist (and also one of the writers!), with this song listed as a highlight in her bio (lol). But then if I check out the Nicole Scherzinger theory using similar research methods, I can find a fair few sources saying that is the case.

Apple Music has Carmen Key credited on the background vocals so I suppose that's the correct answer but I'm intrigued as to how the idea of Nicole being on there was so widespread.

'Telephone' at the time it was the ultimate heavyweight collaboration between Gaga and Beyonce. 'Video Phone' though that was interesting to say the least. Again I can remember the music video for 'Telephone' premiering after 9pm on 4Music.
