I think it's entirely fair that this discussion has cropped up given the movie and subsequent chart revival, I just don't think we need to be reminded any time MJ is discussed that he's an alleged "no

Ok so today MJ has 10k in 2 days? Thats 5k per day right? So its certain to be #1 with almost 35k?

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean would there be aware of the record for most weeks at #1?

Yes - at least the record company are well aware of it and mentioned it in an MW article.

Not strictly true it includes apple music and amazon music streams from sunday so its more likely to be missing between 2 and 3k sales

So id say it s more likely to be between 26 and 30k come friday

I know streaming is missing from the album charts but sales are always so ridiculously close.

Girli just posted this -

guys... i just found out that i'm currently #61 in the UK charts. my album is 250 sales behind being in the top 40!! we have 5 days to reaaaaalllyyyy push & see if we can do this by Friday”

Only 250 behind 40 at 61? Damn sales are close lower down in the chart. Hopefully she manages it.

Are all physical sales counted already though or there might be some still missing from the weekend? :)

Is there any chance the streams of MJ to be allocated to a different album, like what happened 2 weeks ago? Its complicated thing, but can it happen? :)

It only got to 9 on the physical chart, it didn't chart officially. Looks like Wikipedia got that wrong!

As it so often does, it made a certain person round here convinced I'm Always On Stage by Sam Fender was his current official single even though nobody was playlisting it anywhere, it wasn't charting and he wasn't promoting it at all!

I was pretty sure that Apple is behind in the same way that Spotify is. I thought that it was only Amazon that were on time.

Human Nature that has charted before hasn't it?

That would be the third time including the two sampled songs that 'Human Nature' has charted in some way.

If Human Nature doesn’t manage to star out DSTYGE this week, I hope it succeeds in doing so next week

Sorry but the charts are a total MESS.

Only 3 songs in the (midweek) top 10 have been released in the last 6 months:

Sam Fender & Olivia Dean - Rein Me In - 2025

Tame Impala - Dracula - 2025

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean - 1983

Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM - 2026

Olivia Rodrigo - drop dead - 2026

Zara Larsson - Lush Life - 2015

The Chemical Brothers - Go - 2015

sombr - Homewrecker - 2026

Michael Jackson - Beat It - 1982

Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj - Beauty and a Beat - 2012

I actually quite like the new trend of old songs being given a new lease of life many years later (Bloody Mary, Lush Life, Breakin Dishes) but the rate at which it's happening seems to be increasing, to the point that they're taking over the rate at which new songs and artists are breaking through, and that's when it becomes an issue.

Has there ever been so much diversity in the age of songs in the charts (Christmastime excluded?)

I do agree that the lack of turnaround has made the charts quite stale, however I think the revival of older songs to the chart is at least keeping things interesting. If 5/10 years ago you’d have said that some of these songs would have a new lease of life you wouldn’t have believed it.

I think the true low point for the charts was in the earlier days of streaming when we had newer songs hogging the charts and didn’t have older revivals to make it more interesting. It was almost impossible for older/legacy artists to chart and now we’re seeing more variety.

It’s the OCC taking the piss and randomly resetting songs just because they got used on TikTok ie. Lush Life. I don’t mind old songs re-entering when they never charted the first time around but not when it’s songs that charted high enough on first release. I don’t have an issue with the MJ songs re-entering because of the film. If the Elvis film had been delayed by a few months, I’d have seen the Elvis songs getting reset when the film was released

I dont care if it would be in the top 40 for like 500 weeks at this point its unfair songs like mr brightside havent been allowed a single reset , yet the likes of sign of the Times, lush Life, the MJ tracks etc etc have because of a viral moment

Consistency is key if your gonna do it for some do it for all , or dont allow resets over 3 years at all (even if it denied Running up that Hill a much deserved number 1)

In regards to old song resets I wish the OCC were more transparent on how they choose what to reset as the 3+ year old songs they reset seem completely random. Why was Unwritten reset yet again even though it charted in the last 2 years but not songs like Let Down and I Thought I Saw Your Face Today which surely saw 25% increases and would've made the top 40?
