Posted June 3Jun 3 Was stumbling across 2001 music related videos this evening and came across some old clips of SMTV live and CD:UK. A part of my Saturday morning childhood watching these. Famously presented by Ant & Dec and Cat Deeley for several years. From Wonkey Donkey, CHUMS - the popular sketch parodying Friends to the postman segment with the Carpenters playing among other stuff. Fun times. Some clips for those who weren't familiar with itWhat's some of your favourite segments or guests that were on the shows?Share in the thread!
June 3Jun 3 I loved Chums so much I should go back and rewatch them all with subtitles as there will be loads I missed back when I watched it on TV with no subtitles!Have I made it up or was Davina McCall in some kind of Chums style show too?
June 3Jun 3 Sadly my memories of fun, chaotic breakfast TV are only vague (I better recall the era when The Saturdays would perform in full glam on GMTV at 7am), but there's a great YouTube channel that has uploaded some CD:UK episodes in full, so I watch them sometimes! Here is one random example:
June 3Jun 3 So I loved Chums but the best part and the part that absolutely used to have me in tears was Wonkey Donkey. IT HAS TO RHYME MAN. Still to this day quote that, one of the first times I really understood that kind of humour and honestly now, it's just in my nature to highlight when my friends, family and loved ones say absolutely ridiculous things (hi @Lee_J11 ).
June 3Jun 3 Almost every part of the show was iconic:The Pokerap / battlesAnty and Deccy the garden goblinsChallenge AntCat the DogChumsEven the competitions were so much fun such as:Eat My GoalSplattoonAnd of course Wonky DonkeyI’ll always remember some random song they did about EUROPOP (I assumed it was some Eurovision spoof) and I still sing it to myself even now. But can never really find any trace of it anywhere online 😂 Edited June 3Jun 3 by Lee_J11
June 3Jun 3 Beautiful Corrs was a great sketch too.I loved the niche instrumental tracks from Forgiven, Not Forgotten always playing in the background. And the fact that The Corrs sent themselves up in the final part of this sketch.Loved CD:UK, I wouldn't go out on Saturdays with my friends until after 12.30 so I could watch SM:TV and then CD:UK and hear the Saturday chart.
