Thursday at 18:402 days It's completely fine to make new threads for any news stories that anyone wants a specific discussion on - the general threads are there to allow flexibility to move from one topic to the next and remove the barrier to posting that starting a new topic sometimes is.The mocking here of the bar, from what little I've seen seems offcolour and rude, but I don't think it's particularly healthy for people to live in fear or refuse to take part in society either.
Thursday at 20:242 days I'm not necessarily advocating for what topics do and get started so not really talking about whether this thread exists, but this is just one of thousands of bullshit stories about a random bar/ that gets completely amplified on right wing media. Like I really don't have an opinion about people who choose to mask because I don't know anyone that's done this in years and I don't know/haven't been to East Asian where I know it's been common for a while.

Republicans melting down as usual trying to convince everyone that this kind of reactive behaviour is indicative of all left-leaning ideology, whereas it's actually surface level culture war bs, with absolutely nothing to do with serious policy from actual left leaning people. Honestly, the amount of damage the USA has done to political discourse worldwide especially in the past 10 years is staggering.IIRC masks are only helpful to somewhat prevent spread of viruses, they don't protect the wearer much if at all. In a sense it wasn't bad that the pandemic somewhat normalised use of masks in western society as an option, and I think it's a polite and good thing for people to wear masks in public if they have viral symptoms, but that said, if possible they shouldn't be in public at all and should be resting and recuperating. Anything beyond that screams to me of paranoia on the part of people continuing to wear masks at all times, regardless of whether they're ill or not. It's not good for people to feel that restricted through something that they're imposing on themselves, probably as a result of poor mental health during Covid, to the point that they feel they can't interact with anyone without a mask. Of course, some people have weaker immune systems and I get that it's tougher for them, but the risk isn't unmasked individuals, it's individuals who are contagiously ill, and a mask is only a thin half-measured protection against it.Personally, I find that the idea of wearing a mask in a stuffy bar (potentially with no or not many windows) while trying to have a few drinks sounds like the opposite of a good time.
