21 hours ago21 hr "Oh no. Babydoll is so bland and dull. Why does this sort of thing have mass appeal?!" Because its fun tune, you can sing along, you can dance to it, its inoffensive, It's a happy song, It's not Taylor Swift!!!

20 hours ago20 hr A real uptick in sales this week, #5 is outselling what #1 was at this point just 2 weeks ago. Shame we've had 4 hits all come along at once now, would've been nice for them to all get a shot at #1 over the lats month or so and have had the top of the charts be less stagnant, but instead I imagine all but 1 will likely miss out now but alas. 20 hours ago20 hr Has the OCC website stop posting the midweek updates on Mondays? It's still last week's update over there.

Might be an oversight but the fact that the midweek charts have been delayed for 4 consecutive weeks might be deliberate.
18 hours ago18 hr Happy with either Jamie or Olivia/Chappell going number 1 hopefully both can manage at least a week each.Great sales for Fontaines DC should easily manage 70k for the week.Nice to Kylie and Madonna still Top 40 today.

It might be derivative but it's damn catchy and instantly memorable. It's not background music. Sometimes a good old fashioned melodic pop song wins the day and it would be very boring if the top end of the charts was just the too cool for school songs all the time. 6 hours ago6 hr So far after hearing 'Babydoll' twice I haven't found it to be catchy or memorable at all. The only thing I remember about it is not really liking his voice. That and the instrumental sounding like a slightly inferior 'Man I Need'.I'm sure it'll be drilled into my head when I've heard it 100 more times in the next few months though.

Sometimes a good old fashioned melodic pop song wins the day and it would be very boring if the top end of the charts was just the too cool for school songs all the time.to be clear, I wasn't intending to insult Babydoll (or any of the other tracks I listed for that matter) as background music - I actually don't mind Babydoll at all and think it's pretty decent! I was moreso meaning to illustrate why songs like it often become dominant hits as they can be likeable enough with broad appeal, catchiness and accessibility that allows them to rise and stay at the top of the increasingly fragmented streaming market and that for some people they can be easily put on the background, not that they only serve as background music - sorry if my point wasn't clear! even if I'm not fond of some of the examples I listed, I can see their appeal and how they were able to become big hits. 5 hours ago5 hr new entries outside the top 40:#52: Plainsman by Zach Bryan feat. Turnpike Troubadours (this should be gone by Friday given it's only here because the OCC missed it when applying the three tracks/artist rule)#77: Fancy Footwork by Chris Lorenzo & Chromeo (unclear whether this is on ACR or not)
5 hours ago5 hr Thanks for the heads up, Jim!Good to see 'Fancy Footwork' showing up, only heard that for the first time this morning but I'm rooting for it to become a big hit now 💃Ooft Ashe #41 in the albums, so close
