You know the ones, the ones that everyone seems to know, but yet, for whatever reason flopped when it came to the charts, due to lack of promotion or whatever. Or simply the ones that aren't as popular as you think they could have been if things were done differently.

What are your biggest let-downs of the year so far?

I'll start the ball rolling by mentioning Chris Browns-Look At Me Now, massive in the states but only reached number 44 over here simply because of lack of promotion and no proper release date.

I'd also say Super Bass, although number 12 is not a flop by any stretch of the imagination, and it could still climb higher, I think if the cards were played right and it was slightly more radio friendly then it would have gone top 3 very easily.

I would've said alot of tracks could've been - however OAOS has kinda screwed them slightly...

Britney in particular has been a bit hit by this - Till the World Ends would've got a higher peak and sold more if she actualyl got her ass over here and promoted it in the slightest.

Chipmunk/ Keri Hilsons' in the Air probably would've done better had it been held back - same with Nicola Roberts' Beat of My Drum.

The Saturdays may have also faired better and may not have had to halved the price of their song to sell it if it was held back slightly too...

Look At Me Now is a confusing one because the video got released here around the same time as Yeahx3 and has been up and down iTunes and on various music channels since then yet it's never been a single. Chris Brown has quite a wild discography, though he has so many different singles charting in so many different countries.

And to answer the question...

Ke$ha - Blow (#32 peak for this was quite a shock)

Although they both did well, I think 'Born This Way' and 'Judas' could have done better if they hadn't been released mid-week, (BTW #1, Judas top 5).

Also, I don't know how 'Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)' didn't do very well (only #38!)

If they had released the demo of 'Where Them Girls At?' on a Sunday, with a music video out in the next week. I reckon it could have done alot better!

The demo of 'Where Them Girls At?' is FAR superior to the 'Sexy Chick' clone of the new version! I was so annoyed when I heard that and still only ever play the demo version now.

But the sales wouldn't have changed, only the position, but mabye if they got a better peak, then they would have got even more radio play. I think the real problem was On Air/On Sale. In fact, every song that was released on OA/OS could have done so much better if they had been held back, with the one exception being 'Price Tag'.

Also, the demo version was never going to be released of 'WTGA' as it wasn't a demo version, the record was stole and some random man made the beat behind it, not David at all. I agree, the theif did a far better job that David, but if they had released that, they couldn't call it David's.

Tinie Tempah ft Ellie Goulding/ Wonderman Only got to No12

Usher/ More Only got to No23

McFly/ That's The Truth Only got to No35

Wiz Khalifa - Black And Yellow. I still have no idea how this wasn't a massive #1.

That was the fifth release from a 2x Platinum album - to reach number 12, be in the charts for quite a while and sell over 200,000 is very impressive considering

Birdy - Skinny Love

Should have broken Bryan Adams record for most consecutive weeks at #1!

Seconded.

Also, Foo Fighters and Paramore would have been looking at top 10 singles (Arctic Monkeys as well, actually) instead of missing the top 20. The Strokes (Under Cover of Darkness) and The Vaccines (If You Wanna) would have also gone at least top 40.

a lot of songs could've been bigger had they not been released midweek, Edge of Glory got to number 1 on Itunes, Take That's Love Love got to number 3, and many other releases have got a lower peak due to midweek releases

Midweek releases and releasing on the same week as the album have cost loads of songs potential higher peaks this year - Where Them Girls At, Born This Way and maybe The Edge Of Glory and Best Thing I Never Had could have all been #1 otherwise. And as Charlie said The Strokes and The Vaccines may have cost themselves a top 40 hit each by same-week-as-album releases.

Last year as well, Cousins by Vampire Weekend and Papillon by Editors would probably have peaked much higher if they weren't illogically given no single release.

Yeah, Editors really missed out because of that. I still maintain "Papillon" would have been a fantastic #1, it's just that they would have needed a hell of a lot more TV and commercial radio support.

Off the top of my head:

Britney Spears - I Wanna Go (I know there's still time, but it's obviously gonna miss top 40. Had it been first single and not OA/OS, it would've been a Womanizer sized hit - not OA/OS though)

Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk (It's BAFFLING how this wasn't massive like it was in Australia! I blame the lack of airplay though, had radio/TV supported it properly it would've been big)

Ola - All Over The World

Ke$ha - Blow

Eric Saade - Popular

Emily Osment - LoveSick

Brooke Fraser - Something In The Water (Kind of alternative, yet still very catchy and commercial. Heart - and probably Radio 1 - would've been all over it, yet it only had support from Radio 2! :()

I think pretty much all of these can be blamed on lack of airplay. I'll also add Lady Gaga's three singles so far from BTW. Yes they've done well, but with a Sunday release they all would have gone top 5, BTW number 1 even. Also BTINH is another victim of the Monday release.

I believe the Kaiser Chiefs also released their album and single on the same date, the single didn't even make the top 100 - had it been given a release, I'm pretty sure it would've at least made the top 40, they even performed it on Alan Carr
I find it baffling how 'Till The World Ends' did so badly and got next to no support anywhere, when it was pretty much a huge hit for her everywhere else. Oh and it's obviously her best single since at least 'Piece Of Me'.
I still believe that with the right promotion What the Hell by Avril Lavigne could have been a bigger hit. As soon as I heard it, I thought it had the potential to get to no.1. Although it managed to peak at no.16, it has sold to date 134,000 which is more then When You're Gone, which reached no.3 and sold 130,000 in 2007.

I still can't believe Till The World Ends did not break top 20. There was very little airplay for it which did not help. Fingers crossed I Wanna Go does better although it is not lookingh hopeful. Ke$ha's Blow did rubbish, especially after We R Who We R's success.

Dirty Talk was released far too late (by the time it came out it had already been around for ages) and was probably affected by lack of airplay.

Who Says hasn't even broke top 40 although it has hung around the top 100 for a while. If this got the radio support it needed, I could have seen it being huge.

What A Feeling by Alex Gaudino which although it got a high peak has dropped really quickly.

Almost all releases by OAOS have performed badly.
