Oh and NO SPOILERS ON THE BOARD PLEASE (that includes the Saturdays & Leona AFs).

You have been warned!

  • Author

So, which song do you all prefer: Saturdays, Leona or Pixie?

I think The Saturdays marginally pip it from Leona for me, and the Pixie song is tripe!

And the top 5 best selling No 1 hits THIS WEEK over the course of the course of the last 20 years are....

1- 1997- SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT/ CANDLE IN THE WIND 97- Elton John (658,000)

2- 1994- SATURDAY NIGHT- Whigfield (150,000)

3- 1999- WE'RE GOING TO IBIZA- The Vengaboys (142,809)

4- 2000- LADY (HEAR ME TONIGHT)- Modjo (142,000)

5- 1998- MILLENNIUM- Robbie Williams (140,000)

The biggest seller THIS WEEK of the past 10 years was in 2001 when Bob The builder shifted 102K

Third week for Elton John there?

I think The Sats have the best song out of the three new "big" entries. Leona has a fantastic chorus but the verses and that "bridge" are just dreadful, and Pixie's song is just a complete mash up of Boys and Girls and her album track Doing Fine (Without You).

I wonder who'll be the highest in next weeks chart?

2001

01. (-) Bob The Builder - Mambo No 5

08. (6) So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds

09. (8) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Take Me Home

10. (4) Louise - Stuck In The Middle

2001 was a dark time indeed (Starlight aside). I still can't believe that Bob got two number 1 singles, when so many great artists fail to get even one.

1996

04. (4) The Smurfs - I've Got A Little Puppy

And yes, this is as horrifying as you can imagine. A smufified version of Technohead's I Wanna Be a Hippy is by far the cruelest punishment known to man.

2006 is the best retro for me this week (Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol and The Feeling with their best songs to date imo).
2006 is the best retro for me this week (Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol and The Feeling with their best songs to date imo).

Yep. 2006 is my favourite decade of the noughties for me personally. So many A star songs :D

Edited by Rob Summers

The Leona song is my favourite of the three but all of them have had far better, wish Maroon 5 could find a way to #1 :drama: Anyway, my retro picks;

2011

02. (2) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

03. (3) Taio Cruz - Dynamite

05. (-) The Script - For The First Time Always forget that this was so big, really boring imo...

06. (-) McFly - Party Girl Really good comeback single, would have been nice if it had done a bit better than this

07. (4) Eminem Ft Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie ft Rihanna

08. (8) Katy B - Katy On A Mission

09. (5) Flo Rida Ft David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me ft David Guetta

10. (-) Emma's Imagination - This Day

2006

03. (15) Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous My favourite Loose era single marginally, although Say It Right runs it incredibly close

05. (2) Shakira - Hips Don't Lie

09. (12) The Feeling - Never Be Lonely

2001

03. (1) Blue - Too Close

06. (-) Artful Dodger Featuring Melanie Blatt - Twenty Four Seven  Bought this on single, lovely song, Melanie Blatt had some criminally underlooked solo singles, See Me for example

07. (7) Eve Featuring Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind

08. (6) So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds

09. (8) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Take Me Home

10. (4) Louise - Stuck In The Middle

1996

02. (-) Fugees - Ready Or Not

03. (1) Spice Girls - Wannabe

05. (5) Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity

06. (-) Stretch 'N' Vern Presents 'Maddog' - I'm Alive

08. (8) OMC - How Bizarre

Surprisingly poor showing for 2006 for me, I guess it picked up again in October/November...

Pixie, Saturdays and Leona will probably be #3, 5 and 7 next week. I would LOVE Maroon 5 to steal #1 tonight but I think they left it a day too late.

Hi all, how's it going :yahoo: I'm really hung over  Retro faves anywhoo:

2010

01. (-) Alexandra Burke Ft Laza Morgan - Start Without You

03. (3) Taio Cruz - Dynamite

04. (1) Olly Murs - Please Don't Let Me Go

09. (5) Flo Rida Ft David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me ft David Guetta

10. (-) Emma's Imagination - This Day

2006

01. (4) Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin'

08. (3) Beyonce Ft Jay-z - Deja Vu ft Jay-z

09. (12) The Feeling - Never Be Lonely

2001

02. (-) Supermen Lovers/Mani Hoffman - Starlight     (You know Mani is making a comeback soon :o)

04. (3) Uncle Kracker - Follow Me

05. (2) Five - Let's Dance

07. (7) Eve Featuring Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind

08. (6) So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds

09. (8) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Take Me Home

10. (4) Louise - Stuck In The Middle

1996

02. (-) Fugees - Ready Or Not

03. (1) Spice Girls - Wannabe

05. (5) Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity

06. (-) Stretch 'N' Vern Presents 'Maddog' - I'm Alive

08. (8) OMC - How Bizarre

09. (7) Los Del Rio - Macarena

10. (3) The Charlatans - One To Another

2006 wins... how bizarre :o

Saturdays are quite easily the best for me. Leona has some great bits, but it's just too boring, and Pixie is painfully generic. All Fired Up is quite a wonderful mess.

As for the retros, 2010's is quite trashy to be honest. Start Without You gets a little more hate than it deserves, but I'm over it now and The Script and McFly did better with their follow-ups.

2006's risers into the top 10 aren't particularly exciting for me, and the only thing I really care about in 2001's lineup is Superman Lovers.
