Thicke then settled into a lengthy career as a widely respected artist — with occasional diversions into humorous, self-aware showboating — who remained true to his root influences while occasionally departing from '70s-indebted stylistic comfort zone. The focused and refined Something Else, a September 2008 release, peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, highlighted by the disco-soul throwback single "Magic." December 2009's Sex Therapy, led by its Polow da Don-produced title track, narrowly missed the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. And then the next single was Mandy :drama: True. Hey Whatever was a decent track and had it gone to #1 I expect they would have continued with a more mature song. Every time they released a slightly more interesting/different sound and it charted at #4/#5 instead of #1 they rushed back to the traditional ballad cover before they eventually became a parody of themselves circa 2006. Shame. The Longer Blurred Lines spends at the top end of the chart, the more chance it has of becoming the biggest seller of the century! :o
