Biography

Touted as the British answer to Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber, Brighton-born Conor Maynard also rose to prominence through cover versions posted on YouTube. Born in 1992, Maynard had been singing since a young age, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he posted his first video — a cover of Lee Carr’s “Breathe” — on the video sharing site. Throughout 2009 and 2010, Maynard continued posting cover versions of artists such as Chris Brown, Taio Cruz, and Rihanna, while amassing a considerable following from users subscribing to his YouTube channel. Maynard’s cover of American R&B artist Ne-Yo’s “Beautiful Monster” caught the attention of the singer/songwriter, prompting Ne-Yo to make contact with the rising star.

At the end of 2011, MTV U.K. hosted their Brand New for 2012 competition, which enabled fans to vote for their favorite up-and-coming artists. Joined by Lana Del Rey, Delilah, and Lianne La Havas, among others in the competition, Maynard went on to win, picking up 45-percent of the votes. A month later he announced that he’d signed a deal with EMI subsidiary Parlophone, and in April 2012, he released his first single, Can’t Say No. Maynard’s debut album, Contrast, followed three months later and saw him working with a whole host of producers and guest vocalists, including Pharrell Williams, the Invisible Men, Ne-Yo, and Rita Ora. - iTunes

Biography

Known initially for his role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation, Toronto, Ontario, native Drake (born Aubrey Drake Graham) stepped out as a rapper and singer with pop appeal in 2006, when he initiated a series of mixtapes. A year later, despite being unsigned, he scored major exposure when his cocky and laid-back track "Replacement Girl," featuring Trey Songz, was featured on BET's 106 & Park program as its "Joint of the Day." He raised his profile throughout the next several months by popping up on countless mixtapes and remixes, and as rumors swirled about contract offers from labels, he gradually became one of the most talked-about artists in the industry. It did not hurt that he had support from the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne. By the end of June 2009, "Best I Ever Had," a promotional single, had climbed to number two on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. After a fierce bidding war, Drake signed with Universal Motown in late summer and released an EP (So Far Gone) made up of songs from his popular So Far Gone mixtape. It peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and won a 2010 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year. Thank Me Later, a full-length featuring collaborations with the Kings of Leon, the-Dream, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, was issued through Young Money the following year. It debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Still, the artist felt his debut was rushed, so its 2011 follow-up arrived with the title Take Care, referencing the increased time and effort put into the album’s creation. Receiving critical acclaim, Grammy awards, and the number one slot on the U.S. Billboard 200, Take Care cemented Drake's place as one of Canada's biggest exports. In 2012, while on tour, Drake announced that he had started work on what would be his third studio album. Nothing Was the Same was scheduled for a September 2013 release. - iTunes

Biography

Hailing from the leafy suburbs of South West London is Ram Records’ Wilkinson. His first insight into making music came at the age of 9 when his parents bought him a drum kit. Mark ‘Wilkinson’ joined a few bands and was playing at venues as far as the Birmingham NEC and as close as the local old peoples home. This swiftly ended at the age of 14 when Wilkinson discovered his passion for dance music amongst other things. In his final year at college Wilkinson tried his hand at making beats in the college studio, this lead to him buying his first bits of production gear and turning his bedroom into a studio. A few years and part time jobs later, after driving his family mad with large amounts of bass loosening the brickwork of his house, Mark secured himself a studio not far from his home.

After fine-tuning his production skills, Wilkinson passed a few songs on to Hospital Records via Cyantific, which led to his first release on Hospital Records’ Sick Music 2 compilation. A few months later Wilkinson sent a folder of tunes to Ram Records and within days received a phone call from Andy C inviting him for a meeting at the Ram Records HQ.

October 2010 saw three of Wilkinson’s songs featured on Andy C’s Nightlife 5 album and releases including ‘Moonwalker’/‘Samurai’, ‘Refuge’, ‘Get Into It’ and the mighty ‘Everytime’/‘Overdose’ doing damage across dance-floors worldwide, winning fans from Skream, Mista Jam, Chase & Status and High Contrast in the process.

Since then Mark won the ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ award at the National D&B Awards 2012 and has remixed Chase & Status, Example, Nero, Professor Green, Wiley and Jakwob to much critical acclaim. He’s also currently working on production projects for Relentless, Atlantic and Island Records.

2012 saw Wilkinson up the levels once more, releasing the mighty ‘Automatic’ in the summer, followed by the hit record ‘Need To Know’ feat. Iman which topped the iTunes Electronic chart, was championed by the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw, was Sara Cox’s daytime Record Of The Week and spent 4 weeks on the Radio 1 playlist.

Hotly tipped to do big things across drum & bass and electronica, Wilkinson released ‘Take You Higher’ to much critical acclaim, again topping all D&B charts and receiving numerous daytime Radio 1 spins.

Following on from ‘Heartbeat’ feat. P Money & Arlissa which again topped all d&b charts and was playlisted across BBC 1Xtra, Wilkinson releases ‘Afterglow’ ahead of his debut album on Ram Records titled ‘Lazers Not Included’ this Oct 2013. He continues to tour worldwide from Sydney to Berlin, Barcelona to Brighton with his dynamic and energetic DJ sets including festival performances this summer at EDC Las Vegas, Mallorca Rocks, Exit, Nass, Global Gathering & Bestival. In fairness Scott is normally really good when covering the chart show. He's probably a bit distracted due to being out on location and having guests and people in and out of his studio. It wasn't like he spoilt what was Number 1 anyway, so it don't really matter that much.

Biography

A former British Army officer, singer/songwriter James Blunt was a thoughtful performer with a knack for crafting melodic contemporary soft rock tunes. Born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England in 1974 to a family with a long military history, Blunt entered the Army after graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Ultimately achieving the rank of captain, Blunt served with the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo and finished out his time in the military as a member of the Life Guard Regiment in the British Household Cavalry. Having long been interested in music, Blunt wasted no time in pursuing a pop career after leaving the Army.

A subsequent performance at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, brought Blunt to the attention of 4 Non Blondes singer/producer Linda Perry, who signed Blunt to her Custard Records label. Released in 2005, Blunt's debut album, Back to Bedlam, and its hit single, You're Beautiful, were hugely successful — the single hit number one in over a dozen countries, and sold over ten million copies worldwide. Blunt toured for much of 2005 and 2006, then released the two-disc "odds and sods" live/documentary album Chasing Time: The Bedlam Sessions in 2006. He had been writing songs while on the road, and brought Back to Bedlam producer Tom Rothrock in again to record. (The songs featured writing collaborations with Mark Batson, Jimmy Hogarth. Steve McEwan, and Max Martin, while the recordings featured Blunt's live backing band.) His sophomore effort, All the Lost Souls — featuring the leadoff single "1973" — finally dropped in September 2007.

Disillusioned by success and what he felt as a perceived loss of artistic credibility, Blunt took a break from music before coming back in 2010 with his third full-length effort Some Kind of Trouble, a more optimistic, spontaneous album influenced by '70s U.S. pop/rock, which sold well despite not being critically well-received. In 2012 he returned to the studio with Tom Rothrock to track his fourth album Moon Landing. Featuring "Miss America," Blunt's tribute to the late Whitney Houston, and the country-folk-influenced single Bonfire Heart, the record was scheduled for release in October 2013. - iTunes
