Is Ben really going to sell that many physicals? I think people might be over-estimating slightly - Band Aid proved that not many people buy CD singles these days, even if they're charity/novelty songs. I wouldn't be surprised if he sold less physicals than Band Aid sold last week.

Hard to say but I think he might sell quite a few, Christmas pressies and they seem to be displayed right by the tills in the Supermarkets. I've seen loads of tweets today saying they have just bought it on his Twitter timeline and this tweet too (yes it only one but if replicated could be quite a big number) Its different to any other physical in that its just not a single it performances from the show so fans who have already bought the download may buy this too. Like me :) https://twitter.com/Bex_Mad4AM/status/545197286507421696

Sam Bailey had sold 67k by the Wednesday update last year so we'll see what kind of figure Ben is on for later on.

Mint Royale

Sheeran album sales: 88,585 by the end of Tuesday.

I’m afraid Ben Haenow is going to be christmas number 1, his lead has grown.

There was never any real chance of Ben Haenow not getting the Christmas #1, even the lower selling winner's singles have had first week sales out of reach of nearly all normal singles (maybe if Ben was on course to do as badly as Sam Bailey he *could* have been beaten by Mark Ronson but he's clearly doing better, not surprisingly as he does have considerably more appeal to the music downloading public) and none of the other charity singles or campaign songs attracted anywhere near enough attention to be in with a shout.

Yep Ben has a lot of "younger" fans more likely to download and also people at the other end of the scale. He should get some decent numbers.

Indeed both the top 2 will sell very well - 125-150k for UF & 200-250k for Ben! Bens Cd sales won't be massive but I suspect Band Aid sold poorly because people haven't taken to the song at all.

Next weeks singles chart will be interesting with half a week of decent Ben sales then the gift card effect will massively benefit Uptown Funk!

ALBUMS

Ed Sheeran looks set for a Happy X-mas this year as he is on course to continue his reign atop the Official Album Chart this week.

The million-selling X is currently Number 1 on today’s Album Chart Update, with a lead 35,000 copies on his closest competitor, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour. If he holds on to his current position, it will give Ed his 11th non-consecutive week at the top.

Meanwhile, Olly Murs is at 3 with his former chart-topping album Never Been Better, George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage is at 4, and Take That’s III completes the Top 5.

New entries and high climbers

Michael Buble’s Christmas album climbs to Number 7 in today’s Update, and Paloma Faith’s A Perfect Contradiction continues its ascent back up the chart thanks to its repack, currently placed at Number 12.

Further down the chart, Nicki Minaj is this week’s highest new entry at Number 17 with her third studio album The Pinkprint. The album follows 2012’s chart-topping Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and includes the Top 5 single Anaconda and new track Bed of Lies.

Elsewhere, Aussie band 5 Seconds Of Summer debut at 21 with their first live album LiveSOS, Ed Sheeran’s + re-enters the Top 40 at 39, and D’Angelo’s first album in 14 years Black Messiah is currently just outside the Top 40 at 41.

It would be wonderful if Hozier can remain in the top 20 with Take Me To The Church.

Ben Haenow on 107k and Mark/Bruno on 74k!

If those Ed Sheeran sales from Twitter are true (that account usually is) then Sam Smith is on 53k, 35k behind Ed.

Ben Haenow on 107k and Mark/Bruno on 74k!

Excellent sales from Mark and Bruno! :)

I'm really impressed at how well Gorgon City are doing, after how badly 'Unmissable' did and this song didn't really seem like a hit in waiting to me, especially in Christmas week. I suppose it has a more well-known guest vocalist but Jennifer Hudson is hardly a MASSIVE name, having never made the top 10 before.

Great to see Bruno and Mark hopefully making it to 100k again this week!

Gutting for Cheryl not to have made it back into the top 40 albums over Christmas! Shocked by this, what a flop for her.

Hozier

Nicki :( Hopefully this manages to scrape the top 25 and doesn't go like Union J's last album or Britney Jean. Is it really doing that bad on physicals (been #4 all day on iTunes)?

After selling/streaming 23k since yesterday(!!), it could make 100k in tomorrow's update!
