really thought Lorde had more of a fanbase :( she's gonna do the same as Katy Perry or Dua Lupa, which basically have casual buyers as opposed to dedicated fanbases :/
Lorde at #5 :/ 10k for #5 on a Monday isn't too bad and she could still beat the sales of 'Pure Heroine' but that is still rather disappointing. Just hope she doesn't drop any further. (Also piss off at Nickelback still being ahead)

Royal Blood should make it around 50k overall then, pretty good!

looks like a close call re: Lorde staying Top 5 then. Didn't really expect Melodrama to do big things anyway, especially with the main hit single peaking about 3 months ago

If 'Wild Thoughts' hits #2 this week Rihanna will have 10 #2s in the UK. Is there any artist with more songs peaking at #2?

Yes - Kylie Minogue has had 11.

OK, this is off topic but how cute is this:

Basically made my black heart just turn a bit less black just by looking at it.

Madonna?

I think Madonna had 11 also - possibly 12 if you count the 1990 release of Crazy For You as a separate release.

I guess Lorde is just not a big enough name yet. She's released this with zero promo in the UK and, as 7 said, months after the single peaked.

I never thought Lorde had particularly much of a big fanbase in the UK tbh.

She was an oddity when she debuted with Royals, all her press was about the contrast between her age and style and the song's subject matter. Then she became part of Swift squad, and she had some stories about how she dances a bit differently from some people.

Now she releases album #2 off the back of one moderately successful single, released about 4 months ago, that took about a month itself to get going, and 3-4 years after her first album. I think top 5 is quite an achievement really.

She had promo. She did Radio 1 Big Weekend and Jools Holland.

I was expecting her to do a bit better. Her streaming is quite decent. Oh wait, it's missing Spotify data from Sunday, maybe it'll do better than expected?

Katy Perry down to 22 in the album is a shocker.

Had really hoped the Killers would be top 75 with The Man at this point of the week buy sadly is just outside which will likely mean it wont achieve a top 100 place this week.

Olly Murs and Louisa Johnson getting nearer and nearer to the top 40 but still 4 places away.

Those sales have the Father's Day effect already? So I doubt that Nickelback can do much better later in the week. They are still selling better than I expected. Lorde will probably end up #5 but I guess it can have at least some longevity, opposed to Katy.

Despacito selling more than last week's at this point. :o

Surprised the new Jax Jones is top 40 today. I think he will be something around #52/55 in the official chart.

10 for Madge, but yes if you count “Crazy For You” (remix) in 1991 then you get 11 and I guess you probably should as it is an entirely separate release.

Me against the music?
