OCC have said BOTW has amassed 120k combined sales so far. The fastest selling single this decade, to date. Outselling 'Despacito' by 40k!

Incredible! :o

All the productions for this prior to it being released were ... might go Top 10, will miss the Top 10, will underperform, charity singles don't sell anymore :P

Something about these sales don't add up, particularly if you check the iTunes kworb ratio.

I'll be curious to see what streaming figures are like.

I'm really surprised it's managed to sell faster than Band Aid did in it's first day.

It's a local tragedy, so not surprising to me.

Crazy sales, wow :o Really thought Despacito would be No.1 all summer. I guess Drake got very lucky with his 15 weeks last summer, no other 'event' single came out while he was dominating.

On which day of the week was 'Do they Know it's Christmas' launched though?

If it was a weekday then sales comparisons aren't really valid as potential buyers would be at school/work and much less able to purchase the single.

? - Grenfell was released on a weekday where potential buyers would be at school/work and much less able to purchase the single, too...

What jonjo said and I think it was premiered on the x factor so Sunday evening but I think Sunday was still release day back then anyway

Just realised it was Band Aid 30 that was being referred to, I was thinking of the original.

I've just done a bit of research and it looks like the OCC have overlooked the first day sales of Band Aid 30. It was up for pre-order on the Sunday, the video was shown the same day on X Factor and caused iTunes to crash until Monday afternoon. Band Aid was released at 8am on the Monday and was revealed in the Tuesday mids as selling 206k in its first day of release.

Just to add, in regards to this decade: Helping Haiti sold 205k in two days, Matt Cardle's 'When We Collide' sold 112k on its first day, Military Wives sold 242k in two days and James Arthur's 'Impossible' sold 187k in one and a bit days (it was released immediately after James won on the Sunday evening and had sold 187k by 23:59 on the Monday).

I think BOTW will gain enough momentum and publicity for at least another week - by which time Despacito's Sales will hopefully have dropped so it doesn't return to #1.

I'm really surprised the track sold that much, and everybody was thinking #2 at least  never really saw that coming. If the track continues selling that well in Week 2, it could stay at #1 for another week at least, and than Descapito back on top, or DJ Khaled will get there with 'Wild Thoughts'.
I would say on Sunday it will start dropping on iTunes significantly. Can we have a sweepstake?

I think that it will maintain another week too - lots of people won't be aware of it yet plus when it hits the top it will get huge media coverage which should keep sales ticking over, also it will have a full sales week.

Yeah, I have to say I was annoyed at first at it being released on a Wednesday but I have to say it's a really smart move charts-wise! They've definitely increased their chances of staying atop for 2 weeks!

I understand what you are saying but it has had blanket coverage. Over 10 million people must've seen the video yesterday on ITV1 alone.
