October 26, 20177 yr I have a provisional list of 10 songs for next year (which is subject to change) and none of them are more than ten minutes long so don't worry about Rolloland. :)
October 26, 20177 yr Dandy did speak to the mods a couple of weeks ago. We understood what he was doing and we were happy for it to go ahead. I’m strongly against a length limit. It’s against the spirit of the contest. While personally I find many of them not to justify their excessive length, that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be entered and heard by others who could discover a new track they might adore - that’s the point of this contest and why we’ve made it to our 10th birthday. We will enforce the veto rules to promote discoveries but we won’t expand that to enforce a length quota. *with the exception of certain spin offs such as BJFest
October 26, 20177 yr oh right fair enough if dandy got mod approval beforehand. just don't want '2 in 1' entries to become the norm (Rolloland also having sent Parts I and II of a song which are split into 2 separate songs on Spotify), I'm sure they won't though.
October 26, 20177 yr May I just say, its been done before, by me, Tokyo Police Club - Argentina Parts 1, II, III - 9 mins long cough :D
October 26, 20177 yr A lot of prog groups divide their songs into parts to help them get radio airplay. Also, the record company make more money from individual downloads if there are more tracks on an album.
October 26, 20177 yr Author Don't forget guys because of the amount of entries this is 18 point system voting :P
October 26, 20177 yr Yay Innerbloom getting that #promo still :D Despite the fact that I also moan about the length of these entries - and do not look forward to listening to them - I don't think we should limit the length of any entry as it ruins the discovery of unknown music imo. The number of people who dislike these lengthy entries already acts as a natural selection discouraging people from sending them but I guess as it's BJSC 100 and people want to enter something that will stand out! As a genuine question what is the appeal of a longer entry? The only two that I've been a fan of have been the aforementioned Innerbloom and Free Tibet but that's due to varying significantly throughout the 8/9 minutes they last which keeps my interest throughout.
October 26, 20177 yr that Greenfroze is absolutely 'terrible' sorry Freeze  Also not sure I fancy listening to the album it comes from called 'Anus'. Haha, that's fine! :P I wanted to send something very special this time! :D I really like Alaska, and this is my favorite song of hers ^_^ I just find it so incredibly funny, edgy and clever  But I can see that it's also a love/hate type of song :P Edited October 26, 20177 yr by Freeze
October 26, 20177 yr Author Yeah I wouldn't ban them because otherwise you could ban all sorts of things that x and y don't like and that's a slippery slope
October 26, 20177 yr oh yea I know it was clearly stated in the post but somehow I still forgot about the voting change lol anyhow voted for the 3rd and hopefully last time :kink: very impressive amount of songs I liked (24) so brilliant semi overall!

The only two that I've been a fan of have been the aforementioned Innerbloom and Free Tibet but that's due to varying significantly throughout the 8/9 minutes they last which keeps my interest throughout. I always enjoy longer entries cos they're great at creating an atmosphere and taking you on a musical journey, so to speak, I find you can really appreciate every element of the composition and the music the longer it goes on for and the natural progression. < 3 minute songs probably don't need to do that so I judge them differently, but I certainly find often they're a lot less interesting in my view, especially within the same genres, like post rock wouldn't really work at all at that length. It comes down to personal preference rlly, but I always find the longer entries add variety and long may they keep happening ;o
October 26, 20177 yr Don't forget guys because of the amount of entries this is 18 point system voting :Poh righty, so in the final will it still be 18 or is there a rare higher point system :o
October 26, 20177 yr Ooooops sorry if the FLJ entry is frustrating some. As much as I’ve joked about it being plughell, it really was just intended to be something a bit different for the 100th contest
October 27, 20177 yr Author oh righty, so in the final will it still be 18 or is there a rare higher point system :o No it's still 18 because there's not really going to be THAT many more in the final than usual whereas here in a semi there's like 10 more than some contests have!
October 27, 20177 yr I think on Plug y'all should set a time limit on how long you will play each entry - say, 6 mins max or so.That way, no time limits on the competition, but the plug sessions stay manageable and people don't leave for bed halfway through. Then people can listen to the full length version by themselves. I have listened to the long songs forst, now gotta start with the shorter ones. Dom't worry y'all - I have two one minute wonders. I think I'll send them in t New Year to give y'all a break from long entries

October 27, 20177 yr That moment when you accidentally leave SoundCloud playing and fall in love
