ABBA GOLD: SURVIVOR

I’ve taken it upon myself to launch my own survivor poll type thing, this one is for one of the biggest selling album of all times and also (sort of) coincides with the buzz around Mamma Mia again. The rules are simple please vote for YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE and every couple of days I will eliminate the song with the most votes until we have a winner.

Third out and the first uptemo track to go is the 1979 track from Voulez-Vous and their biggest song to feature Björn's vocals in prominence. The song peaked for three weeks at #4, during this time it was behind Art Garfunkel's "Bright Eyes", M's "Pop Musik", Boney M's "Hooray Hooray, It's A Holi-Holiday" and for its last peak week behind Blondie's "Sunday Girl" and Roxy Music's "Dance Away" along with "Pop Musik". The song focuses on being the subject of a teenage girl's advances which was a more common theme for songs back in the seventies and now seems to have died out.


"One of Us" gains a reprieve as once again it comes second with 6 votes, "Thank You For The Music" gains detractors and goes into third with 4 votes. "Dancing Queen" and "Voulez-Vous" had a pair of voters each. Whilst "Take A Chance On Me", "Lay All Your Love On Me", "Super Trouper", "Chiquitita" and for the first time "Money, Money, Money" & "Fernando" all gained one vote.

Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, SOS, and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! all remain unvoted for.

Went for "Chiquitita" this time, getting really hard now as I really love all the songs left, the only reason I've plumped for this is that I associate so much with Christmas I don't really play it during the year.

Gone for 'Thank You For The Music' as the most forgettable in a sea of catchy choruses.

I vote for Thank You For The Music, not mad about the lyrics. I still sing along to it though.
