ABBA GOLD: SURVIVOR

I’ve taken it upon myself to launch my own survivor poll type thing, this one is for one of the biggest selling album of all times and also (sort of) coincides with the buzz around Mamma Mia again. The rules are simple please vote for YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE and every couple of days I will eliminate the song with the most votes until we have a winner.

I'm sure they could have picked a more flattering thumbnail for that YouTube video... So anyway the fourth out is another ballad, this time "One of Us" taken from The Visitors and used as the lead single in 1981. It peaked at number one in various countries but stalled at #3 in the UK for three weeks, beaten by Human League's "Don't You Want Me" (justifiably) and Cliff Richard's "Daddy's Home" (not so), it was ABBA's last UK top 10 and one of my favourites, so I'm sad to see it cut so soon.


Now that "One of Us" has been toppled we have a new runner up with "Thank You For The Music" getting 7 votes, not too far behind is "Chiquitita" with 5, "Money, Money Money" next gets 3, Voulez-Vous gets deux again. "Dancing Queen", "Lay All Your Love On Me", "Super Trouper" and "Fernando" all got a single vote.

Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, SOS, and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! all remain unvoted for.

Having relistened again to the album I realised that "Chiquitita"'s not my least favourite left, so will be switching to "SOS" for this round.

Voted Thankyou For the Music this time round.

Waterloo for me but I imagine i'll be alone on that for a while ~

'Thank You For The Music' again! 'One Of Us' deserved a bit better than that :(

Now that One Of Us has finally been given the boot, I have awarded Gimme Gimme Gimme its first vote.

'Dancing Queen' again but I would probably now be voting for 'Thank You For The Music' otherwise ~

I will vote for Money Money Money when Thank You For The Music leaves, I don't like the materialistic lyrics :(

 

Thank You for the Music is worse though imo, I percieve an air of arrogance about it tbh with the lyrics 'thank you for the music for giving it to me'.

 

Who voted for Gimme Gimme Gimme :( , that should be the last survivor in this contest imo, amazing disco song!
