December 29, 20196 yr There's definitely a lot more wrong with Mariah's video stream numbers than could be explained by the Jukebox Heaven thing. The OCC have given her 714,076 video streams, but those YT figures (4.69M) suggest she has circa 4 million missing. The video streams they've given to Wham! (2,249,051) also look like too low (YT 2.56M) but perhaps that can be explained by underestimated Boxing Day streams? At an ACR free streams ratio of 1200:1, Mariah would have needed another 4.94M video streams (or 5.65M in total) to overturn being 4,117 sales behind Ellie - so those missing streams may not quite have been enough, but it would have been much closer. EDIT: and she should have unequivocally claimed the most streamed song of the week ahead of Wham! thereby setting a new record. Anyhow, way back on the first 21 pages of this thread, there was a Top 40 countdown. Thanks to Joseph for hosting this and prepping the info for it, same goes for every week :) Edited December 29, 20196 yr by jimwatts
December 29, 20196 yr So basically, they rigged the numbers to allow Alexa Goulding to get he no.1. I told you all they would do this and got laughed at. And you all oop.
December 29, 20196 yr Unless she gets the amazon exclusive every year and gets spammed to high heaven every time... A Decade Of: Alexa Goulding. The new X Factor.

As pointed out by other people, Mariah Carey was also on Christmas playlists and not necessarily sought out. On Christmas day, I asked Google Mini to play Christmas songs and who popped up first? Yes, Mariah Carey, then Wham. So is that fair or does it only apply to Ellie Goulding?

If Ellie's were in demand it would have a few more than a couple k youtube hits, yea? Mariah had MILLIONS, which were stolen oop. Wham also had a million. Mariah was top 10 on downloads. Ellie sold 1p0 downloads lol. People actuvely seek out Mariah, they turn on these playlists to LISTEN TO MARIAH! If she werwn't on one, it wouldn't get listened to. For these playlusts to exist, they need Mariah. They are fine without Ellie. Alexa spammed Ellie every 15/ 20 minutes. That is gross. It is pure manipulation. It is NOT no.1 and it is NOT popular. The end.

Ellie Goulding is at number 1 and you have to accept it and move on, just as I have to accept streaming is in the charts and are a total joke.
December 29, 20196 yr The fact that Mariah had over 4m YouTube views, and OCC gave her a little over 700,000... ugh. It likely still wouldn’t have been enough to overcome the gap between herself & Ellie, but as mentioned Mariah would have easily broken the streaming record instead of Wham. The difference between your Google Mini and an Alexa though, is that Alexa was specifically giving River a huge push. I’ve heard from more than one person that their “play Christmas music” command (and then leaving Alexa on for hours) resulted in River played numerous times, interspersed between other Christmas songs getting 1 or 2 plays. Google Mini won’t have had Mariah coming on over and over again while other Christmas hits got a play or two! Ellie’s Amazon audio streams figure ended up being around 55% of what Mariah achieved across every streaming platform, which certainly highlights how strong Amazon’s push of it was.
December 29, 20196 yr Alas, it was cunning but a genius move by Amazon it must be said. I'm sure someone there knew full well the OCC has absolutely no backbone and chops & changes the rules as it suits them so whoever came up with this plan, well played. That's certainly spotting an opportunity & going full pelt.
December 30, 20196 yr By James Masterson. Thought you guys may be interested in this. Ellie Goulding had 77,795 audio streaming units. These were derived from 7,629,118 premium audio streams and 902,255 ad-funded streams. She also had 133,106 video streams to add a further 245 chart sales. Her song was available for download, but precious few people did. She sold just 153 copies. To give a final total of 78,193 chart sales. Mariah Carey had 69,978 audio streaming units. These were derived from 13,706,535 premium audio streams and 1,734,635 ad-funded streams. She enjoyed (in theory) 714,076 video plays to add a further 645 chart sales. She was downloaded 3,153 times and also sold 300 physical copies. Total chart sale 74,076. Wham! had 68,413 audio streaming units. These were derived from 13,442,568 premium audio streams and 1,440,190 ad-funded streams. Their video was played 2,249,051 times to add a further 2,067 chart sales. The song was downloaded 2,426 times and sold 266 physical copies (these entirely the remaining inventory of the 7-inch special edition which sold 4,859 copies the week before). The total chart sale was 73,172. There's a small footnote to Mariah Carey's total, as much attention has been drawn to the mysterious appearance of a version of All I Want For Christmas Is You credited to "Jukebox Heaven" at Number 13 in the video streaming chart. That smells of "database error" but it is prominent enough for people to wonder if these streams should not actually have been credited to the Mariah Carey single. However, Number 14 on the video streaming chart is equivalent to about 840,000 plays which at best would only add another 800 chart sales to her total. Nowhere near enough either to close the gap to Number One, nor to match the overall record-breaking streaming total of Last Christmas. Edited December 30, 20196 yr by Crazy Chris-tmas

December 30, 20196 yr James Masterson has added to his blog with all the figures now. This particular post has attracted an overwhelming amount of attention, mainly centred around a curiosity as to just how the situation at the top of the charts came about. Thanks to the diligent research of people on music forums with some industry contacts, the exact numbers for the Top 3 are now circulating. So, in an attempt to shed some light on the situation, here is how it broke down: Ellie Goulding had 77,795 audio streaming units. These were derived from 7,629,118 premium audio streams and 902,255 ad-funded streams. She also had 133,106 video streams to add a further 245 chart sales. December 30, 20196 yr Yes that does seem a bit odd to me too come to think of it. How are video views weighted relative to paid streams? Rather low, I suspect?
