December 30, 20196 yr So it's just changed like that then? Maybe they're trying to take away from the big sales story from last weeks chart lol
December 30, 20196 yr The album chart desperately needs all the help it can get, disqualifying cast recordings will just make it weaker. Take the greatest Showman out and a lot of times the #11 selling album in summer were abysmal.
December 30, 20196 yr If I were the OCC I would have never allowed The Greatest Showman into the main albums chart (so I guess I can't really disagree with this move) but a bit of a mess them just arbitrarily deciding to remove it now - just one week after the Cats soundtrack entered the chart as well  They moved a couple of the other long charting soundtrack albums to the compilations chart a little while back (Moana and Trolls), not sure why it took them until now to move the remaining ones. Don't agree with 'A Star Is Born' being treated the same as it was released as a Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper album, not a 'cast recording', so it feels different to me... but of course the OCC credited it as a cast recording so it makes sense that it would disappear as well if they're now banning all such albums from the main chart.
December 30, 20196 yr Maybe should have just started from now and kept the already charting albums in the chart they have been in!
December 30, 20196 yr They could also do with removing the compilation chart and allowing compilations back into the album chart to make it stronger. It’s not like compilations are selling well anymore like they used to. We’ve witnessed that with the sales of regular NOWs declining
December 31, 20196 yr Good to see Kylie back in the top 40 with Step Back in Time. Kylie should safely stay top 50 now which is great.
December 31, 20196 yr Removing cast soundtracks is ridiculous! They are not same as compilation albums. Especially ASIB is clearly a duet album, all songs are credited to Gaga and/or Cooper. They are even billed in the cover.
December 31, 20196 yr What a mess. I understood why they removed moana/frozen as it had the pop versions of songs from Alessia Cara/Demi Lovato etc so wasn’t just the versions in the movie recorded by the cast, but this seems silly after keeping them included for so long. The greatest showman’s number 1 run was a big chart news story. We haven’t been inundated with similar scenarios to prompt a reason for them to remove soundtracks, so seems a strange move. December 31, 20196 yr That was due to streaming - album streams are attributed to any studio album a song is on, as well as the top selling (pure sales) greatest hits / best of. It was no longer the top selling Queen compilation so it lost the streams and vanished :') I've heard of this rule but just ignored it really.... It makes no sense to me. Mixes may be different. Track order will be different. Quality may be different. Loads of etcs. It's like saying that if 1,000 CD copies of Bohemian Rhapsody are sold, in one week and 1,001 CD copies of Queen's Greatest hits are sold the same week, that the Greatest Hits CD will be attributed 2,001 sales!
December 31, 20196 yr I think it's a bad move and actually now they had finally the better rule that is too be very strict about the definition of cast album and exclude Moana and Frozen cos they also include non-cast tracks I think there are other bigger issues regarding the album charts they should be focusing
December 31, 20196 yr It's stupid. The album should only get a new sale credited if the whole album or say more than half the tracks are downloaded. Not just one track. That should be a sale of the single. Edited December 31, 20196 yr by Crazy Chris-tmas
December 31, 20196 yr Album sales over the past few years would look even more dismal without the OSTs. Seems like yet another pointless rule change for the sake of it.
December 31, 20196 yr Bit stupid they done that but left in , Last christmas OST and kidz bop Yes, super bizarre.

December 31, 20196 yr Bit stupid they done that but left in , Last christmas OST and kidz bop'Last Christmas OST' isn't a Motion Picture Cast Recording album: all the songs on the soundtrack album are sung by George Michael, either with a solo credit or as part of Wham.
