And that's only the number of positive tests. The real figure will be significantly higher.

Clapham Common was busier today than I've ever seen in previous years, because instead of ppl being spread across bars/ restaurants/ museums they are ALL in the parks.

Yes but don't they say it doesn't spread as easily outdoors so surely better them on a beach or in a park then in pubs, cinemas, homes even? Park near us was having too and not much SD at all.

Indeed so will that not inevitably mean a huge surge as the coming weeks go on as 2000 infections will mean 100-250 hospital admissions no?

I was there last Sunday evening and it was crazy, large crowds gathered all around. There was even a group of about 40 people near the bandstand.

I put that down to the "Cummings effect".

The thing is no-one really knows, I saw two scientists interviewed together on BBC News and one said there will be a second wave and the other didn't think there would be. They said if you had 6 of them on there then 3 would say there'll be one and three that there won't be one.

That's a weird and utterly inaccurate extrapolation from a mathematical point of view.

"Emma Kennedy

I’ve been told by

a) someone who works in ICU they’ve been told for 2nd wave in July and

b) someone who works for funeral director they’ve been told to prepare for mass of deaths in August

I’m taking responsibility for my own safety and ignoring govt. I’m staying home."

Frankly given the way everyone is acting, I suspect they HAVE been told to expect the above.

Funny how people get used to hearing hundreds of people are dying every day and not getting outraged by it.

I see that the government have conveniently claimed that they have met the 200,000 tests/day capacity that they promised by the end of May - offering zero evidence to substantiate this claim and posting for the 9th consecutive day no details about the actual number of people being tested.

They are lying, and we know they are lying, and they also know we know they are lying - but don't care and instead double-down. Hypernormalisation as explained by Adam Curtis in 2016.

Dire.

And, once again, they haven't met the test even if you ignore the fiddling of the figures and the fact that the target was the number of tests, not capacity. Hitting the target on one day is not the same as doing it every day which is what they promised. The capacity thing is dishonest even by their standards. They can have the capacity to do five million tests but that is completely useless if they are all locked in cupboards in Truro.

If the pictures on the news tonight from Bournemouth beach today are anything to go by it's probably pretty accurate.

It's as if a lot of people in England actually want to get the virus judging by how they are behaving and how they are not taking it seriously.
In the space of a week the R0 in berlin has gone from 0,41 to 1,41. It’s so volatile and easy to trickle back over into a runaway scenario. We’re only picking up about 30 cases a day at the moment here so they’re not worried but it shows just how easy it is for this virus to get out of hand. England is in some serious trouble

I'm really worried. I'm back to work come Monday - which is fine. But I've seen so many more people going out and about (including family and friends).

I'm honestly hoping this summer is miserable with a lot of rain. The current sunny weather is going to bring a lot more people out.

given they aren't testing, despite claims to the contrary there is no evidence that trace-test follow-up is happening or the app is working (there are no official figures, and examples they can point to, just waffle about "Ill make sure we send you the data" from politicians who do no such thing, as per BBC this morning), the chances of anyone in the UK getting to go on a holiday abroad for 12 months is pretty much zero, and kids who have been massing in dozens and dozens breaking lock-down rules means only a fool wold open them up or send their own kids.

Just twelve days ago, Johnson said that a "world-beating app" would be up and running by today. There is no sign of it - or, for that matter, any app at all. After all, one that works would be perfectly adequate, it doesn't need to be world-beating. As it is, it seems that we are now further away from seeing this app than the twelve days Johnson promised nearly a fortnight ago.

The 1 June date was being downplayed almost as soon as Johnson promised it. So, did he lie or did he just not bother finding out how development was going and simply make up a date on the spot?

This is no different from a good old situation where old-fashioned company executives who can talk for hours on end without saying anything set a deadline not understanding that some things are literally not doable in that timeframe. It's just a desperate/narcissistic power play.

I don't see it as either/or. Both.

How can you tell Johnson is lying? Check to see if his mouth is open, but make sure first he's not just mouth-breathing.

Johnson just says whatever he thinks people want to hear at that moment so they’ll still love him. He can announce a wonderful world beating app but let one of his minions explain its not happening. And this tactic was working too until Cummingsgate.

Indeed. I've suffered from that myself.
