How embarrassing that we’re almost into double figures of people that prefer OOYM.

... trying to shame people who prefer one song over the other is more embarrassing!

But taking it too seriously is far more shameful. People make comments like it all the time.

Maybe they shouldn't!

Maybe they shouldn't!

And maybe you shouldn’t hound me until you’ve treated every other similar comment in the same way!

Both song are fantastic and this was honestly an amazing chart battle, but I have to pick Spiller featuring SEB as the winner. It is a shame though how forgotten OOYM seems these days, everyone always makes fun of VB but this was a huge hit for her and very underrated.

And lolz at the people shaming her or the song in here. Who cares if she is the weakest singer in the band? (something I would agree with, but still, complete nonsense). What has that to do with either the song or the question in this poll.......

I wouldn't say so! There are occasions when I'm interested to know which particular aspects of a song people disliked or felt ambivalent towards, just to see where they're coming from. I don't believe I've ever said to anyone in AF Idol that their votes / taste in music is something they should feel embarrassed about though, even if I can't relate to how they feel about particular songs. Even during Viva Forever-gate I was just curious about what it is about that song (vocals/instruments/lyrics/melody?) that is so abhorrent for some people! :kink: I don't intend to imply that someone should feel embarrassed about their taste though.

First of all, my post was hyperbolic and absolutely not the worst crime ever. Secondly, it might not be clear in the wording but the implication is that I find it embarrassing not that I think other people should feel embarrassed, so I feel like you’re putting words in my mouth. Thirdly, though I may be shaming a song, I think shaming a poster is far worse. That’s is something people on here don’t seem to be getting right now, even if you were only joking. And lastly, I’ve ended up taking this seriously because I feel you’ve been taking it too seriously. I shouldn’t have been surprised, any slight diss to the Spice Girls always seems to lead to this. But you probably wouldn’t leap in if I’d said it about a Jess Glynne Or Wheatus song which kind of feels like double standards when you’re going with ‘no one should be shamed for liking a song’/holier than thou approach.

Woah, let me clarify.

"How embarrassing that we’re almost into double figures of people that prefer OOYM."

...read to me as "It's embarrassing that this many people would consider Out of Your Mind to be the better song of the two" - with the implication being that they should feel ashamed for voting that way and for causing this supposedly embarrassing outcome. If that wasn't intended, ok. You're entitled to feel that it's the worse song of the two, obviously, it's just the way you chose to express that felt quite shaming.

Nowhere did I imply that your post was "the worst crime". It's just a criticism of one post by you. It's not personal. I didn't like the sentiment (in the way I interpreted it) but that doesn't mean I have a problem with you specifically.

...I've already responded "Maybe they shouldn't!" to your defence of "People make comments like this all the time." I think anyone should feel entitled to like Jess Glynne or Wheatus and not be made to feel bad for that. I don't enter those artist's threads because I don't particularly care for them, so yeah, I probably wouldn't even see if you said the same there. The fact that I've expressed my opinion here, but not everywhere else this occurs, is not a double standard.

Anyway, I've only pointed out something I disagreed with. I am more than happy to leave it there and move on.

I'm not huge on either song. Groovejet is slightly better but it's a bit pedestrian & not one I ever actively play. Out Of Your Mind is ok too but a bit of a mess sonically.

I prefer Out Of Your Mind. Yes Dobbo Groovejet is a bit pedestrian I agree.

There was a chart rivalry also between Victoria and Mel C at this time being hyped up by the media I remember as Out of Your Mind and I Turn To You were out on following weeks and there was a debate over which was better and which would chart higher.

I do like OOYM its one of the best solo Spice singles out of all their respective solo careers and fair play to Victoria for trying a bit of garage, although I'd argue that genre does sound very dated, whereas Groovejet wouldn't be out of place if released now.

I remember being gutted at the time Victoria only reached no.2, as Groovejet just did not appeal to me at the time but its grown on me over the years. Still its one of the biggest selling singles out of all the solo spice girl hits and sold more than most of Geri's no1 hits.

  • 3 weeks later...
Groovejet is great and still gets played these days but the other one doesn't I don't think. Have heard Groovejet on Magic and Heart anyway but never Our Of My Mind.
