What is the bloody point of announcing a three tier system only to immediately scrap it for a mystical fourth tier like a fcking Power Ranger...

I'm not sure even the Tories could've got away with continuing to hold their fingers in their ears and hoping the problem goes away given the latest update from SAGE this morning that England is in a trajectory far worse than previously predicted and that the tier system basically isn't working.

Robert Peston says it starts midnight Wednesday. A lot were saying next weekend.

Let's hope we don't see panic buying in the next few days. :(

I really f***ing hate the British media. I really wish Peston and Kussenberg would stop acting as Government spokespeople and hold this shambolic shitshow to account. Why is f***ing peston announcing this before Boris is?! How is this a functioning country

The reason it is so shit in England is because England wasn't working anyway.

People have been overworked, mentally ill and underpaid since the 08 recession if not before.

This was a perfect storm made worse when the government decided that for 'our own good' the one single thing they would completely ban since March was the ability to have downtime with friends and family.

Completely agree. Both are awful journalists - Kuenssberg should have gone in December when she contravened election impartiality by tweeting about postal ballots on election day.

It's quite entertaining how Laura K has been prevented from doing that the last 24 hours because of the new BBC social media guidelines. I guess Peston has taken over the mantle of Secretary of State for Propaganda now...

Agreed. How she was not charged by the electoral commission I do not know

Interesting! I don’t follow her on social media because, well I’d rather wash my eyes out with hydrochloric acid than deal with her undisguised propaganda.

Let’s see how long it lasts

Some MP's are very angry about the leaks too and say this is so important that it should only be announced first by the PM and not the media.

Those MPs and I are in complete agreement on this subject.

It is a disgrace. This impacts every aspect of the lives of more than 50m lives, many are going to be back on furlough and this is disrespectful, rude, callus and just straight up disgusting. You can’t release policy like this via a Back door mouthpiece

Considering Number 10 supposed to be annoyed at the leak to the papers last night, it's shocking that they've released stuff to journalists first and then delayed it twice! It could be sport related with so many following football and rugby but that would have been obvious when they first annouced it'd be at 16:00!
It should also be announced in the House of Commons, not in a press conference. The announcement should then be followed by questions from MPs. Once again, Johnson shows his contempt for parliament and due process.
Do you ever just sit down and remember that people actually CHOSE to vote for Boris.

What makes it worse is that most of the Tory MPs who voted for him knew full well what he was like. They knew he'd be terrible but only cared about whether he could win an election.

It’s probably been delayed because, as ever, Boris and his cronies are coming up with ways in which they can come out of this looking good and that is the focus rather than the national health emergency. Probably working out who they can blame.

I think it was mainly people who wanted Brexit to be completed that voted for him. That's why the Conservatives got the majority in the December election with the deadline for withdrawing from the EU looming large by that point.
