It's almost as if those of us who said people were coming here from abroad to do the jobs British people didn't want to do were telling the truth.

Well they'll have to do them if they can't fill them, or have their benefits stopped.

Maybe that should happen to you.

Love how he thinks it's perfectly fine for vulnerable members of society to be thrown under a bus, just so long as he's alright.

No am too ill to work actually due to depression. On disability benefits. If I was fit I'd gladly do any kind of job, even clean toilets rather than live on benefits.

Are you saying all unemployed are vulnerable now? I have been found unfit to do any sort of work, training or anything to do with work.

You should have more compassion for other human beings given your circumstances, that is all.

I have a lot of compassion actually. You hardly know me.

Boris to lead update shortly at 5pm.

You can say you have compassion but you never seem to show it for those that need it. You should want poor families to be able to eat and not accuse them over spending all their money on booze and drugs whilst at the same time feeling sorry for people like Boris and Trump who have never wanted for anything their whole lives.

I may "hardly know you", but I don't need to. When I've read thousands upon thousands of your posts on an internet forum I have a pretty good idea of how your mind works.

But quite well enough to walk down the shops, cook, get buses, read news articles & type a days' worth of posts on an internet forum 7 days a week.

Well I'm not physically disabled and can walk and use my hands. Do you expect me to just lie in bed all day or sit in a chair?

I don't want to make this personal so apologies for using you as an example.

But it is a little close to the bone to in one breath talk about lazy unemployed people who can't be bothered to do certain jobs, and then to say that you are so disabled that there is no possible job that you could do, even part-time, and then to also admit that you're perfectly capable of sitting at a computer all day and/or can walk about and can use your hands.

People have been sanctioned and had their benefits removed for less than that and really, if there are things that you can do, then actually there would be jobs that you could do simply through not being physically incapable of them.

It then strikes as a little bit ironic when in the next breath you are being suspicious of other people faking their need for benefits or being lazy.

My GP asked the DWP to use little known Regs. 29 and 35 which state that in her opinion I'm a suicide risk due to my depression and losing my daughter, if forced to look for or do any kind of work. (Danger to myself or others). The DWP have twice tried to say I'm fit for work, refusing to use those, and resulted in me winning judicial appeals with the judge slating them. Last time they did listen to her though.

317k people in the United Kingdom received their 1st dose yesterday. You really love to see it.

That's excellent news,

They should be aiming for 500k per day then....

I don't have that much hope of things getting 'back to normal' this year though, once lots of countries start easing travel restrictions in the late spring or summer, the Brazilian and South African variants are probably going to spread anyway around the world and become the main variants, it is of course believed of course that the vaccine might not work against those varients. However hopefully before that happens, in the next month or so, vaccination will hopefully get cases and deaths way down.

The vaccination rollout appears to be going very well. Already up to 300k+ vaccinations daily. I wouldn't be surprised to see sustained 500k+ daily figures, especially as there'll be 24/7 centers soon. My work is soon going to be vaccinating 1k+ people daily as well. Supply shouldn't be an issue for the next few weeks, as there is 21 million+ doses now in the UK. Hopefully that'll mean I'll be getting access to the vaccine sooner rather than later.

Reading the announcement from Boris yesterday, is he now suggesting restrictions will have to stay in place to 'protect the young' now?

"But it will also depend on what the disease is and what's happening because what we can't have...is any false sense of security so that we lift the restrictions altogether and then the disease really runs riot in the younger generations.

Goalposts changing again. Wasn't the point of these lockdowns to protect the elderly and vulnerable? Surely if they're vaccinated the younger generation can get back on with their lives?

Because we have no idea what covid can do to younger people. The idea that we can just let COVID rip through those under 40 is madness. They reckon 1 in 10 people suffer from long covid. So think about it strategically- more people will be using the NHS, which leads to greater stress on the balance. I suspect what is probably happening is they’re managing expectations- this idea that when the vulnerable are vaccinated, we will go free for all again. Everyone wants to get back on with their lives but there’s a difference this time which looks like they’re going to be more careful and hopefully this will be the last lockdown we have to do with covid.

It seems that the young are going to be vaccinated from August-September time before the vulnerable are vaccinated again in the winter, this gives us the best shot of lessening the impact of covid by having larger immunity when it’s at its strongest.

Professor Whitty continually states even after vaccination thing won’t automatically be normal again!
