March 21, 20214 yr I’m definitely waiting for the hype to die down, going out the first night we can sounds horrendous. Yeh I understand people want to get out but don’t get the people who are booking tables for the first date they can, not like the virus is disappearing because the UK government unlock some rules. Not surprised people are booking holidays I mean loads went abroad last year anyway and although it wasnt against any rules it was highly stupid to do it. The thing that wound me up most was when travel corridors closed and people were on bbc news complaining Edited March 21, 20214 yr by steve201
March 21, 20214 yr I'm cautiously optimistic about reopening of things. It's been almost 2 weeks since schools have been back and cases haven't changed much at all yet - despite the increase of mixing and massively increased testing. Although we'll have to see how the next week or so goes. Meanwhile more and more people are getting vaccinated. Vaccinations are ramping up, with the last couples days both being 500k+ recieving first doses and 100k+ recieving their second. I'm hoping the vaccination supply issues will sort themselves out sooner rather than later as it's likely we'll see a ramp up followed by a big dip before more vaccines are recieved. I'm going to wait to get my haircut for another few weeks or so after they open as I'm sure there will be massive queues outside every hair dresser. In fact I want to avoid everywhere that reopens for a while until things calm down. In saying that I'm not sure things will necessarily calm down though given the pent up demand and extra money a lot of people have to spend.
March 21, 20214 yr Germany also resumed vaccinating with AZ today. Berlins State authorities were shouting loudly this morning about it being back on which was good. Our case numbers have risen almost vertically. Although how much of that is linked to increased testing I am not sure. While the federal government f***ed it up a bit, the State of Berlin has done a cracking job. I am entitled to one free rapid test per week either by just walking up to one of 4 mass testing centres or by booking an appointment at one of the 12 neighbourhood centres. They’re not counted in the stats but anyone positive is then made to get a PCR so I’m wondering how much of our rise is genuine and how much is actually just more accurately capturing the situation on the ground Yeah since around October it's been so incredibly easy to get tested here - there are wee PCR test gazebos outside train stations, in town squares - and you can also buy home DIY tests in supermarkets for €5. It makes me a bit bitter that if I ever wanted to travel back to Britain, I'd have to pay hundreds of pounds for two home-testing kits, which seems like a cost calculation made by the same government that oversees the distribution of weekly food parcels containing food that can be bought for £10 in a supermarket but costs the taxpayer £30.
March 21, 20214 yr I'm getting my haircut on Easter weekend lol, my partner's mam is a hairdresser and she'll be cutting my hair in her garden.
March 21, 20214 yr :( So although it hasn't been officially confirmed that overseas travel this year is off, we are now being told that it is 'premature' booking foreign holidays this year. That's unfortunate but understandable. I do wonder if the other opening dates are likely to be pushed out. Already booked clubbing for July. Most average Brits go on holiday to Europe. I was one of the optimistics for internation travel but I just don't see it. Europe are in the midset of a 3rd covid wave and are way behind us on vaccine rollout. I can see some form of travel as countries need it and the airline industry needs it, but I can't see anything before July/August. The only date I can see realistically being pushed back is the June 21st one. International travel will get moved or they will announce you can only go if fully vaccinated which would be horrendous right now.
March 21, 20214 yr Biggest vaccination day yet yesterday with ~750,000 people being vaccinated with a first dose and ~91,000 with a second dose.
March 23, 20214 yr @1374275060702253056 It's been a pretty bleak year after a pretty bleak decade for young adults.
March 23, 20214 yr Sean Ward who used to play Callum Logan in Coronation Street was one of the few celebrities spotted at the anti-lockdown protest on Saturday. He’s lost quite a lot of fans due to that stunt Edited March 23, 20214 yr by Hadji
March 23, 20214 yr It’s not much longer until it’s 15 years of crap the under 35‘s have endured 😐 Millennials have been completely shafted and the older group of Gen Z will also be completely shafted too. There is a massive hole in the Digital sector, which we can easily fill but the curriculum is not built for it for younger generations. But even Millennials and Gen Z - there are loads of Digital skills that could be learned if the right provisions were made. Certainly the under 35s have been hit with blow after blow post 2008.
March 23, 20214 yr So they want us to be on our doorsteps at 8pm with lights so that we can commemorate a year of lockdowns? Enough.
March 23, 20214 yr So they want us to be on our doorsteps at 8pm with lights so that we can commemorate a year of lockdowns? Enough. It’s not to commemorate lockdowns. It’s to commemorate lives lost
March 23, 20214 yr It’s not to commemorate lockdowns. It’s to commemorate lives lost It’s propaganda.
March 23, 20214 yr Author @1374275060702253056 It's been a pretty bleak year after a pretty bleak decade for young adults. 88.3% of job losses falling on the under 35s. : ( @1373777805968879620 Oh wait.
March 23, 20214 yr Looks like Germany is extending its lockdown by 3 weeks due to the third wave. In a country that only has first vaccination for 9% of people it seems the only safe decision.
March 24, 20214 yr So the EU has found 29 million vaccines in Italy from AstraZeneca. What a joke this company is
March 24, 20214 yr So the EU has found 29 million vaccines in Italy from AstraZeneca. What a joke this company is Sceptical Brett remains sceptical about this story. Seems like there’s more to it than has been reported.
March 24, 20214 yr The problem is that it’s not clear *who* the doses are for and in the absence of clarity or any hint from AZ who are still acting as transparently as the wall in a bomb shelter, politicians and journos with agendas are filling in the gaps. What I think we know is that two plants send doses to Italy for filling. The percentage mix between these two plants is uncertain. Some of these doses have been reported as bound for Covax, some for Canada, some for the EU and some for the UK. How much each is getting is unclear. AZ have really done themselves in here. If it turns out that none of the 30m are EU bound and a substantial quantity are UK bound then expect all hell to break loose. If none are UK bound (extremely unlikely given how hard UK Govs media puppets are mouthing off) then AZ isn’t out of hot water by a long stretch. 30m doses goes a long way to fill the gigantic hole in what AZ has sent to the EU thus far vs what it is contractually obligated to. This story won’t go away and AZ silence is deafening
