There won’t be any food shortages before Christmas unless people stockpile. But if this carries on for a few days then come January there will be shitloads of shortages.

I think the whole UK now needs to do a six week week lockdown from Christmas Day onwards like NI is doing, but also with schools closed too. Higher fines for breaking restrictions too and at least an attempt at better enforcement. I agree with Priti Patel that yes you should report your neighbours if they appear to be breaking restrictions. A unified whole country approach rather than the tier system might portray better to the public how serious the situation is.

And yes NI should ban flights if not from the whole UK from England at least. They probably won't though as Steve said.

No, no, no. This is not what we're going to start encouraging. You don't know the circumstances of your neighbours and if someone is struggling mentally with anxiety, loneliness and depression and they invite their friends round I'm sorry but I think that's pretty acceptable. It's been ten months of restrictions and after losing our pubs, restaurants, concerts, sports, jobs, holidays, being banned from seeing friends and family, having to wear a mask everywhere and every other rule and restriction that's came into place I absolutely don't blame someone for having enough at this stage. There's only so much a human can take.

Its VERY easy to judge others but not everyone has had a comfortable work from home job during this pandemic or been able to live with their family/friends or are comfortable enough financially to 'relax' during these times. Some of us live alone and are on Universal Credit and feeling extremely hopeless or are working retail, low paid jobs and being expected to work with hundreds of customers every day but are told these same people aren't allowed to see their family on Christmas Day?

Sorry but we are NOT going down that route of reporting our neighbours. To me that's a very dark and subtle step into dangerous territory.

Yes, let’s never agree with anything Priti Patel says. That’s just basic.

Fully agreed with not reporting your neighbours. I'd actually applaud them for ignoring this absolutely corrupt and morally bankrupt government.

It's what any good father would do.

The silliest thing about reporting your neighbours is that there's so many subtle things they could do in retaliation to f*** your life up.

We're spending more time at home than ever before. Don't piss off the people you have to put up with the most.

Yes, exactly, that is despicable, cold-hearted Tory talk of 'reporting your neighbours' (not to mention laden with hypocrisy with the whole Cummings situation).

It really should be down to the individual people, my sister is round and I guess that's technically breaking rules in London at Tier 4 but we've all had a test, isolated in preparation and have already cancelled plans to see my grandma when she tested positive. If you treat it like any other Christmas and disregard the rules completely, then yes you're a dick, but if people take responsibility and limit their interactions, then they should be able to enjoy Christmas.

I echo the last few posts, you don't want to start a war with the people you may be living next to for years. One of my friends, her brother left a note on the neighbour's car back in April time to let them know that they were aware the neighbour was having people over/breaking lockdown and the tension is still there months later. The neighbour apparently put up CCTV to monitor the driveway of the household who left the note  and my friend was in tears on Saturday because of threats being thrown around between the two houses following the press conference.

I see that a Met Police chairman has openly said that they won't be knocking on doors on Christmas Day to break up small gatherings

I can already see them discovering the new peak in The Netherlands is due to the new strain as well and I cannot be arsed with closed borders around here. I need my ass in Belgium for my exams in January :cheeseblock:

Yeah I said what I said in my last post in the heat of the moment, I just was (and continue to be) really irritated that a lot of people aren't following the rules and seemingly don't care about putting the NHS under strain and risking other people's lives too. It's probably not a good idea to report any obvious violations of coronavirus rules occurring at your direct next door neighbour's house as yes it could start a feud but if they are a few doors down and you think you might be able to do it without them suspecting you have to make a decision.

There's no point reporting neighbours unless they have 20+ people round. The damage is already done. People are/were going to do what they want, this was going to happen regardless of what the Government said. And you will see the same happening across Europe and the world too.

Part of wonders if a reason the numbers have gone up is people were using the test system to get themselves tested ahead of going back home for Christmas.

Yeah I really wouldn’t bet on that if I were you.

I'm crossing my fingers as I've read reports that Police Scotland have said they would patrol borders as a last resort.

Chief of Police Scotland said today they weren’t gonna but a road block on the boarder but they would be patrolling and they will be stopping cars.

They’ve said there’s an “enhanced” drink drive operation on the border so will be stopping a lot of cars

Good ole Waitrose... keeping the riff raff out of Fortnum and Masons.

Yes, Waitrose was the only place with a a queue outside in Brighton this morning. I’ve just been back into town to do what should be the last shopping before Friday. M&S was busy but manageable. Unfortunately, I queued at a till manned by the winner of the slowest checkout operator of the year award. To make it worse, he won ten years ago and has slowed down since then.

Think some panic buying has started - when I came out of Sainsbury’s about half hour ago queues to get in and queues of traffic to get in too

Well Sky News said Sainsburys has admitted there'll be shortages soon of fresh produce which comes from the EU such as green leaf salad, tomatoes, broccoli, fruits and more. That will have caused people to rush and get some but there's only so many lettuces you can buy and they don't freeze. Supermarkets should be quiet as they know what will happen.

There’s been slot of touts in Belfast’s student areas as they have been partying flat out like nothings happened!

Good, probably the medical students reporting the other students!

Just the usual huge 20-25 people parties with people crawling out of the attics and everything when the police search occurred.
