December 19, 20205 yr He has already been number one this year so nope :P Edited December 19, 20205 yr by Sour Candy
December 19, 20205 yr :o Shape Of You did over 200k in a week, maybe this can do 100k in four days? Although I won't hold my breath as sales are so much lower than four years ago and I Don't Care didn't open as high.
December 19, 20205 yr Exactly, it was a carryover hit from 2019, and the only reason it didn't hit #1 in 2019 already was that it was blocked by LadBaby and Christmas songs. His only release in 2020 (until this one) was a feature on Eminem's album which was right at the start of the year, so he's essentially gone a few weeks short of a year without any activity.
December 19, 20205 yr With a song that came out in 2019 tbf Yes but sold the majority of its sales in 2020 and was number one in 2020. Stormzy and Harry I sort of look at as 2020 releases as they were released in the penultimate well of the year.
December 19, 20205 yr really miss Mint Royale spoiling us with the mids info Oh is he the usual source of the updates on this thread? I wasn't sure where the info came from.... Guess this must be his well deserved week off for Christmas then.

'I Don't Care' opened with higher sale-equivalent streams though - 102k vs. 89k (this did include video streams whereas 'Shape of You' did not). Even with just four days, this new single could easily be challenging for #1.

I sort of get counting the rest of Stormzy's album tracks as basically being a 2020 release but 'Own It' definitely is a 2019 song. (and besides, if you do count it as being more of a 2020 song then this new Ed track is definitely going to be more of a 2021 song )
December 19, 20205 yr Yeh I would have that opinion tbh. I look at ‘Blinding Lights’ as a 2020 hit as it was huge in that year even if it was released on the 27/11/19!
December 19, 20205 yr I mean each to their own but that seems pretty clearly different to me. 'Own It' was already a big hit in 2019, 'Blinding Lights' wasn't (and it wasn't really even being pushed as the single over 'Heartless' until 2020 iirc?)
December 19, 20205 yr doesn't matter if the break has been 11 or 12 or 13 months it's not been enough!!!!!! :D
December 19, 20205 yr Definitely worth a bet on Ed getting the number 1 with his current odds on some sites.

Yeh each to their own. ‘Blinding Lights’ probably a better example to be fair. I re-read the Dec 2019 Spotify thread yesterday and one of my favourite posts was one you posted saying “ Just noticed 'Blinding Lights' overtaking 'Heartless' now, clearly looking like it'll be the bigger hit in the long run (although not sure either are going to have that much longevity unfortunately much like the singles from his last EP).”
December 19, 20205 yr Crazy to think how 'Heartless' got more of a push initially! I had forgotten about that completely.
