October 29, 20213 yr Love ‘Be Right Now’! Reminds me of something Darren Hayes would have done for ‘The tension and the spark’ album. I think it has a bit of a 'Please Forgive Me' by David Gray vibe to it instrumentally.
October 29, 20213 yr Not much a fan of this on first listen tbh. It's all a bit "Ed by numbers" to me. It's just very "Ed in 2021". The production for majority of it is pretty bland and uninspired - just very uninteresting and if it wasn't Ed Sheeran, this would be pretty slated as being so. I feel people are only saying it's "interesting and different" for him coz they're so used to such mediocrity. 'Tides' is honestly shit. Did he forget to finish it? Not sure how that's getting the hype tbh... 'The Joker & The Queen' is bland af. His voice is piercing on it. I'll see what the rumoured Taylor addition adds... I did like 'Overpass Graffiti', 'Collide', 'Visiting Hours', 'Be Right Now' and of course 'Shivers' though. We'll see if I grow to like this album through playing it at work all week, but yeah, pretty bland and uninspired to me for the most part.
October 30, 20213 yr 'Tides' is honestly shit. Did he forget to finish it? Not sure how that's getting the hype tbh... ' Agreed.
October 30, 20213 yr I think I liked Divide more personally! After just one listen, it certainly sounded good with lots of growers but I think I prefer all of Shape Of You, Castle On The Hill, Perfect and Galway Girl to any individual track on here.
October 30, 20213 yr Finally worked out what Overpass Graffiti sounds like. The opening reminds me of Duran Duran’s New Moon on Monday and the melody is like Boys of Summer.
October 30, 20213 yr Anyone else think the instrumental after the chorus on Overpass Grafitti with the mixed vocals sounds like the music VUE play in their advert before the film starts?
November 1, 20213 yr Got all my stuff today… No signed Artcard and just a standard cd instead of the signed one I ordered
November 2, 20213 yr Given this a few listens now and it isn’t clicking how I hoped. Bar the three singles, Collide is the only other stand out for me. The rest are pleasant enough, but nothing I would listen to outside of the album. Edited November 2, 20213 yr by GTH
November 7, 20213 yr I think Shivers may now be my favourite Ed single! Definitely up there with my other favourites from him Castle on the hill and Photograph. Definitely his best single what’s went to #1 in the UK by a long way. I’ve been replaying it so much may actually be one of my favourite tracks across the whole year and Overpass Graffiti is another one of his tracks what I’m enjoying a lot too. I’ll definitely give this album a chance now. I didn’t really mind Divide as a whole piece there’s some great stuff on there will give it a listen over the week but I’ve liked everything I have heard from it so far except Bad Habits what didn’t really click with me (not bad but not amazing either). On another note just seen this is #1 in the US. Also expecting this to hold up well in the UK don’t feel it’ll decrease that drastically tbh. Ed is someone who’s got huge casual support so I feel his sales will hold up well due to that and I’m definitely expecting strong promo across Q4 as well he’s surely got a Strictly slot in the bag at some point. November 8, 20213 yr Given this a few listens now and it isn’t clicking how I hoped. Bar the three singles, Collide is the only other stand out for me. The rest are pleasant enough, but nothing I would listen to outside of the album. Yeah that's kinda how I feel about the album. Pleasant enough but nothing outstanding. I quite like 'Collide' and also 'Sandman' is sort of cute.
November 8, 20213 yr Author Sandman sounds like royalty free background music, I genuinely thought it was an advert when it started :kink:
November 25, 20213 yr He picked the singles wisely from this ('Bad Habits' does feel a little bit played out already but still think it was a perfectly decent lead single and obviously did the job commercially, 'Shivers' however is a rock solid pop song that I think will age a lot better and I'm also really liking 'Overpass Graffiti', feels like the 'Castle On The Hill' of this era albeit a bit more trend-chasing). 'Visiting Hours' grew on me a lot too so I had decently high hopes that this would actually turn out to be a much better album than '÷'. It isn't really, unfortunately it's still quite a mixed bag. I'm not really feeling the more acoustic / ballad-y moments in particular this time, with the exception of 'Visiting Hours' as aforementioned and 'The Joker And The Queen' which is pretty lovely (and I am quite intrigued for a potential Taylor Swift duet version as has been rumoured). Among the more upbeat songs there are a couple more highlights, '2step' is a bop, 'Collide' is also solid and 'Be Right Now' might actually be my favourite song on the entire album so it's a right shame that it was left as the final song and therefore winding up as the least streamed song on the album. Especially as I had to suffer through 'Sandman' first which is a strong contender for the worst song he has ever released and is added to my list of reasons for why children should be made illegal. Quite a contrast between the last 2 songs  In summary: Fad Sheeran's 12 Cheese Slices flop album Casserole Jenkins outsold
November 27, 20213 yr Going by this video shoot it’s looks like ‘2step’ will be the next single in the new year. It is the most popular track on Spotify apart from the singles so it’s not surprising. @1463921782507905024
November 27, 20213 yr but I thought the new single was a new version of the Joker song with Taylor out in early Jan?
December 1, 20213 yr Couple of recent remixes for Overpass Graffiti from the last few weeks; Iuh3o9IH8_s prSf4vF6c9U
