I really like the original “Merry Christmas” so it’s a shame we have to have this rubbish sausage roll version eclipsing it. Couldn’t they have just said the sales of the original would go to the Trussell Trust, and maybe done a version featuring a LadBaby vocal that would be combined with it just to maintain the link? At the end of First Look Vick said “We’ve just played the same song twice”. Yep.

The original is already set up for proceeds to go to two other charities, which as they are Ed and Elton’s, I doubt they would want to lose the revenue for. I agree that a new version with a feature of Ladbaby would be preferred, but this way it will make more for charity and will get more press as a Ladbaby lead.

Looking forward to next week when it plummets still as I can’t even finish this version, it is just too cringeworthy.

will be interesting to see today's figures? looking at the iTunes data it doesn't look like they're doing as well as last year

but iTunes data is hard to interpret

by comparison last year they were on 86K in the Monday Mids

That Ariana & Kelly Clarkson song is an absolute banger. Really hope they give it a proper push next year as it has the potential to become a classic.

Yeh it’s very much in the ‘Underbeath The Tree’ and ‘All I Want For Christmas’ vein. It’s A Listed on radio 2 and getting a lot of plays so decent support!

Really hoping that somehow Ed and Elton just stay at no1 but it seems very unlikely. The fact he mentions about beating the record in the opening line of the song is the precise reason it should not be no1. At least the spice girls and Beatles had three in a row with three original songs (I know it’ll be four but still).

It’ll be interesting to see what Adele does this week with 30, I still think double platinum is possible by the end of the year. I can see Ed waiting in the wings to climb back to no1 in January however. His streaming has held up a lot better than Adele’s.
