Merry Christmas is on Ed's album bringing additional streams.

But will be downweighted to the average of the 3rd to 12th most streamed songs so won't really be making any difference

New peak for The Ronettes  Top 10 in the US too

Biography

Though his name is unfamiliar to most, Bobby Helms rules the airwaves every year around December 25th. His single "Jingle Bell Rock" first became a hit in 1957, and it reappeared on the charts four of the following five years to become an all-time Christmas classic. Before he was pigeonholed, though, Helms had a successful country career with two number one hits to his credit.

Born on August 15, 1933, in Bloomington, IN, Helms first performed on his father Fred's Monroe County Jamboree, singing while brother Freddie played guitar. The Helms Brothers, as they were billed, became a regional attraction. Bobby later cut a single called "Tennessee Rock and Roll," but then returned to Bloomington to appear on the Hayloft Frolic television show. While on the program, he was encouraged to go to Nashville to sing background vocals on an Ernest Tubb session. Tubb recommended him to Decca Records, and the label signed him in 1956. His debut single, "Fraulein," initially flopped in January 1957 but then hit number one on the country chart in April. (The song also hit the pop Top 40 in July of 1957.) In October, Helms released another number one, "My Special Angel," which stayed four weeks at the top and crossed over to number seven pop.

Helms' next recording was "Jingle Bell Rock"; though Decca released it only two days before Christmas 1957, the single still peaked at number six on the pop chart. Two 1958 singles -- "Just a Little Lonesome" and "Jacqueline" -- hit the country Top Ten but flopped elsewhere, though a reissue of "Jingle Bell Rock" made the pop Top 40. The country single "Lonely River Rhine" hit the Top 20 in 1960, but subsequent new material from Helms had little success. (Decca reissued his Christmas hit each year from 1960 to 1962 with diminishing returns.)

Helms toured throughout the '60s and recorded two albums for Kapp in 1966, I'm the Man and Sorry My Name Isn't Fred -- a nod either to brother Freddie or father Fred. Two years later, he released All New Just for You on the Little Darlin' label. Several singles placed modestly on the country charts during 1967-1968, including "He Thought He'd Die Laughing" and "So Long." The 1970 Certron single "Mary Goes 'Round" was his last hit, but Helms recorded Pop-a-Billy for MCA as late as 1983. - Apple Music

Is Adele's sales already so low that Ed having more singles on his album has got him enough streaming points to overtake then, or did Ed do some sales push that I missed?

Neither of them have been streaming huge numbers I think. The album tracks have all disappeared really quickly. So it must be sales. I know he’s overtaken on iTunes and maybe that’s a big proportion of the post Christmas sales.

Wow pretty impressive new peak for this
But will be downweighted to the average of the 3rd to 12th most streamed songs so won't really be making any difference

The 3rd and 4th most listened are BH & OG improving the average a lot so yes it makes difference being #1.

Why else would Mabel and Becky Hill have albums full of singles..

Bobby Helms getting his biggest ever hit in 2021!

Last year, Vera Lynn had a new Top 20 hit after a gap of 63 years and 2 months - Bobby has outdone that with a gap of 63 years and 4 months!

Biography

Eccentric pop genius Ulysses Adrian "Roy" Wood developed the Electric Light Orchestra out of the Move, a truly great British band in an era of great British bands. However, because of a rift with Jeff Lynne, Wood left ELO after the debut No Answer and created Wizzard, a bizarre octet who debuted at a 1972 Wembley Rock 'n' Roll Festival and then captured the airwaves with "Ball Park Incident." Wizzard landed two chart-toppers overseas, "See My Baby Jive" and "Angel Fingers." Chaotic but always melodic, Wood built a unique wall of sound around these and other dandies like "Rock and Roll Winter" and perennial winner "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day." Wizzard even jabbed the ascending ELO with "Bend Over Beethoven."

In the center of this insanity, Wood sported multi-colored beard and mane, added a star to his forehead, and covered his face (perhaps inspiring fan Paul Stanley) with warpaint, sprinkles, or innumerable other oddities. Wizzard seemed to only maintain success with singles however, and the Introducing Eddie and the Falcons LP, a tribute to early rock icons like Del Shannon, Gene Vincent, and Cliff Richard, proved to be Wizzard's final work. Manager Don Arden enjoyed stadium success in the U.S., but Wizzard folded when management decided not to increase financing. Wood kept bassist Rick Price and saxophonist Mike Burney for the Wizzo Band, whose jazz-funk wafted beyond commercial confines for a lone effort, Super Active Wizzo. Wizzo expired in 1978, Wood continuing his concurrent solo career and basically dropping out of sight, reappearing periodically to perform with disciples Cheap Trick. - Spotify

Aww I wanted gayle top 10 today. :(

I do think that Ed's album deserved more than one week at No.1, so actual pleased he's back there this week.

Haven't listened to any Christmas songs for a few days, so this some odd background music whilst making a NYE buffet.

I really can't get into this oops, however, the site seems to agree that the angrier version is better so I should probably give that a go

(after all I have a '2021 angst' playlist)

Gayle is well ahead of the rest of the non-Xmas songs then

If only this Gayle was also in the chart!

(I'm actually only now just learning her name is Gayla not Gayle, oops )
