March 28, 20223 yr Glass Animals nearly top 20  Hoping the new track from Joe Corry 'What Would You Do' get inside the top 10, it feels like a #1 single to me. I quite like it a lot.
March 28, 20223 yr Playlist streanms shouldn't count unless the user created the playlist. We've never had airplay in the OCC before, why did we start when streaming came along? As stated above nonuser-generated playlists are essentially radio and as such shouldn't count... I assume the OCC won't be able to differentiate between the two though.
March 28, 20223 yr I hope so but the way Placebo's sales appear to be tailing off (only 400 on Sunday) suggests its gonna drop - though comparing with last week's total sales would expect it to end up in the top 5. Yeah, I imagine at least MGK will overtake it but it'll be only their second top 5 album ever and hopefully their highest to date which is an amazing result.
March 28, 20223 yr In other news three weeks of a top five with no movement? I hope Aitch pulls something out of the bag with promotion when he sees how close it is. I far prefer Dave as an artist, but Starlight is crazy dull, while Baby has a bit of a charm from the sample and the thought of the sight of Ashanti at No.1. Perhaps not just another static Top 5, but a static Top 9 or 10, depending whether Down Under overtakes WDYG and House On Fire overtakes The Motto. Plus everyone will be pleased to know that numbers 3-5 are on around 3k more than this time last week.
March 28, 20223 yr With the state the singles chart is in, is it any wonder very few people are interested? I do think 2022 is looking perhaps a very weak year, and it doesn't help with social media contributing to a stale chart and mediocre acts. You compare now to say 2012 or even 1985; the standard has fallen big time. At least everyone had the chance to get a hit. The album chart is more fluid and I feel more respective of diversity, despite the fluid turnover. Even the latter makes it more fun!
March 28, 20223 yr New stuff outside the Top 100: 51. Vibe Chemistry - Balling 54. Machine Gun Kelly & blackbear - make up sex 68. Disclosure & RAYE - Waterfall 72. Dylan Conrique - Birthday Cake 80. J Balvin & Ed Sheeran - Sigue 81. J Balvin & Ed Sheeran - Forever My Love 96. Lucky Daye - Over
March 28, 20223 yr MGK has just announced an intimate show for the UK, so it looks like he’ll be pushing for the #1 here this week.
March 28, 20223 yr At this rate Peru could even do a Love The Way You Lie and end up as the biggest song of the year without going to #1. B-)

March 28, 20223 yr At this rate Peru could even do a Love The Way You Lie and end up as the biggest song of the year without going to #1. B-) It's not really selling *that* much though. Did anyone know Bublé had released an album? I didn't. No wonder MGK is going to be #1.
March 28, 20223 yr Ed Sheeran's collaborations with J Balvin are at Sigue #80 Forever Your Love #81 I know the songs aren't great but that's... not good, eh?
March 28, 20223 yr Ed Sheeran's collaborations with J Balvin are at Sigue #80 Forever Your Love #81 I know the songs aren't great but that's... not good, eh? I was expecting better but I also think it's continued proof that it does matter who's billed first (see also: Sweetest Pie). There's not really any doubt that these would be like 75 places higher at least if Ed's name was first (I say this without hearing either song yet) Ed's certainly elevated J Balvin's usual opening week, anyway...!
March 28, 20223 yr Is it unusual not to have missing Apple Music data on the Monday update? I did think yesterday maybe Apple had reported early which could explain why Aitch was #1 and Tate and Joel/David/Bryson were a bit higher than expected
March 28, 20223 yr Underperformance for Buble especially as he released at peak time for Mothers Day gifting. MGK starting to go for it - Album Launch shows announced and on sale tomorrow, expecting additional price cuts and signed items too Let the weekly album battle commence
March 28, 20223 yr Underperformance for Buble especially as he released at peak time for Mothers Day gifting. MGK starting to go for it - Album Launch shows announced and on sale tomorrow, expecting additional price cuts and signed items too Let the weekly album battle commence I think he might have just missed the boat there seeing as Mothers Day happened already. Can't imagine there were THAT many people that would buy the gift the Friday or Saturday just before it. If he released last week, he probably would have got #1 with ease it and done a little better (glad he didn't though for Charli's sake  ).
March 28, 20223 yr Another boring singles chart Is it? Some good climbs for Becky Hill, Joel Corry etc. Mabel and Sigala on the verge of top 40 And a close battle for the top spot. Barring Peru and a couple of other Ed Sheeran songs leaving (as they've been here for months - alongside Glass Animals), i'd say there's some good movement this week and fresh faces in the chart. Its not like Dave, or Aitch's songs have even been out that long either. So at this stage i'm unsure what you want - unless you just want the chart to have completely new songs every week and then every song to be in freefall after that Edited March 28, 20223 yr by ElectroBoy

And this comes after the now 6 week Christmas period when new music does not get a chance anymore. I would say the Singles chart is on life support.

I’d say the chart has been in a worst state - I guess it depends what songs you want to break through but barring Glass Animals and The Sheeran mass (which could’ve got worse this week, but hasn’t) i don’t think it’s that bad. Also 16 of the top 40 was released in 2021 is a misleading statistic given alot of those didn’t break through until the stale x-mas songs exited the chat :D
